The aim of this chapter is to introduce newcomers to deep learning, deep learning platforms, algorithms, applications, and open-source datasets. This chapter will give you a broad overview of the term deep learning, in context to deep learning machine learning, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also introduced. In Introduction, there is a brief overview of the research achievements of deep learning. After Introduction, a brief history of deep learning has been also discussed. The history started from a famous scientist called Allen Turing (1951) to 2020. In the start of a chapter after Introduction, there are some commonly used terminologies, which are used in deep learning. The main focus is on the most recent applications, the most commonly used algorithms, modern platforms, and relevant open-source databases or datasets available online. While discussing the most recent applications and platforms of deep learning, their scope in future is also discussed. Future research directions are discussed in applications and platforms. The natural language processing and auto-pilot vehicles were considered the state-of-the-art application, and these applications still need a good portion of further research. Any reader from undergraduate and postgraduate students, data scientist, and researchers would be benefitted from this.
The development of the 5G mobile communication standard attempts to meet the future needs of data users. The impact of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) is crucial in Internet of Things (IoT) and other emerging technologies. The design of medium access mechanisms for CPS such as radio resource scheduling schemes has a significant effect on network performance. Recent literature shows that limited work is available on uplink scheduling schemes, particularly in the 5G domain. Planning a network that can address the modern needs of users entails efficient CPS scheduling mechanisms such that resources are amicably distributed between users of contrasting priorities. The prime focus of this work is to design and develop an uplink radio resource scheduling framework for CPS-based future networks such as 5G. In the designed framework, scarce radio resources are sought to be distributed efficiently according to the service-based needs of users. The proposed scheduling scheme is a service aware (SA) scheduler designed for CPS in accordance with the 5G network peculiarities, intended to achieve higher throughput and reduced latency. The proposed SA scheduler supports multi-bearer traffic and is capable of providing resources in adverse channel conditions in an efficient manner. The SA scheduling mechanism’s performance is evaluated and compared with renowned scheduling algorithms such as blind equal throughput (BET), maximum throughput (MT), and proportional fair (PF) scheduling schemes. The simulation results obtained in a cellular environment demonstrate that the SA scheduler achieves acceptable cell throughput and end-to-end delay results in all scenarios and out-performs other contemporary scheduling schemes.

In order to meet requirements of modern mobile users, 3GPP (3 rd Generation Partnership Project) has introduced LTE-A (Long Term Evolution Advanced), which improves the throughput and lowers the latency as compared to previous mobile systems. In order to efficiently allocate radio resources to mobile users, number of schedulers is available in literature. However, most of them are either for downlink, or they do not consider the LTE-A uplink functionalities. This paper presents an LTE-A uplink scheduler called (SA) Service Aware scheduler. The SA scheduler is design in accordance with LTE-A uplink specific features. As the simulation results illustrate, the proposed SA scheduling scheme outperforms other contemporary scheduling schemes by achieving better end-to-end delay and maintaining the uplink cell throughput performance.
