Background The universities of Bangladesh are closed for more than seventeen months due to the covid-19 pandemic. This prolonged detachment has psychological consequences among the students. This study assessed the anxiety level and its determinants among the undergraduate students of Bangladesh, along with constraints faced by them during e-learning. Methods A web-based cross-sectional survey among 206 undergraduate students was conducted using a well-structured questionnaire. Their anxiety level was estimated using Zung's self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and determinates were identified by employing a Tobit model. The problem confrontation index (PCI) was used to rank the constraints. Results About 82.5% of the undergraduate students in Bangladesh are experiencing mild to extreme anxiety, while 14.08% are experiencing extreme anxiety. Students' gender, father's year of schooling, family size, residential area, academic year, current accommodation, and access to high-speed internet affect their level of anxiety. Learning alone at home, lacking access to learning resources and inaccessibility to other e-learning platforms are the top three constraints students face during e-learning. Limitations Self-reported data, socio-demographic variables and online survey. Conclusion Covid-19 has been causing anxiety among the students. This study recommends providing better internet services for facilitating e-learning along with access to different e-learning platforms.

A descriptive type of cross sectional study was conducted on 132 students of class IX and X of Mymensingh sadar upazilla during early April to late June, 2007. This study was performed to assess and compare the level of knowledge and practicing behavior of urban and rural students in regards to hand washing, bathing, tooth brushing and taking care of nail and hair. All the students were interviewed with a semi structured questionnaire and observed with an observational check list. The mean age of the students was 14.5±0.94 years. The knowledge of the students regarding tube well water for drinking was significantly higher in rural area (98.3%) compared to urban area. In addition, tube well water was stated as safe for bathing by 77.3% and safe for washing by 80.3% students. Hand washing before meal with soap and water was found almost similar among urban and rural students but hand washing with soap and water after defecation was found significantly better practiced in urban (97.2%) students. Practice regarding tooth paste use was higher in urban (80.6%) area and charcoal use (10.0%) was still found in rural areas. The mean frequency of tooth brushing was significantly higher in girls (1.8±0.5) compared to boys (1.6±0.5) and was significantly higher among urban (1.9±0.4) students. Most of the students were found trimming their nail once a week (74.2%) and cut their hair once a month (85.6%). Overall trend of knowledge and practice about personal hygiene is in positive direction but urban students and girls were more aware about personal hygiene than rural students

Background: Broiler feedstuff as Rice bran (RB) is a by-product of rice industry. Using RB in broiler chicken diets is not common, especially in broiler chicken production systems due to limitations like higher content of fiber and lower availability of micronutrients. Fermentation of RB by rumen inoculate would improve the nutritive value and further inclusion of urea as a non-protein nitrogenous substance would increase the microbial population using nitrogen generated from urea. Methods: RB was fermented anaerobically without or with urea (2.0%) by rumen inoculates for 48 hours. Three isonitrogenous (22.75% CP) and isocaloric (3164 kcal/kg) diets contained 7.0% RB, 7.0% fermented RB (FRB) and 7.0% urea (2.0%) added fermented RB (UFRB) formulated. The total number of 90-day old unsexed broiler chicks distributed in 03 groups considering 30 replicate birds in each. Result: True protein content increased in FRB (16.45%) and UFRB (16.85%) in comparison to RB group (16.27%). Final body weight of RB, FRB and UFRB groups 1129, 1152 and 1190 g/bird. Feed intake 1884, 1828 and 1924 g/bird respectively for RB, FRB and UFRB groups. Feed conversion ratio 1.75, 1.66 and 1.69 for RB, FRB and UFRB groups respectively. Dressing Percentage of Carcass yield is higher in UFRB (73%) than in FRB (70%). No mortality occurred in any groups during the experiment. So, it may be concluded that inclusion of fermented rice bran by rumen inoculate increase the performance of broiler but urea (2.0%) added to fermented rice bran by rumen inoculate shows better growth performance and carcass yield of broiler.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has a major public health concern. It can be identified throughout the chain of production for poultry, which raises questions regarding potential transmission from farm to consumer. MRSA has zoonotic significance and can be transmitted to humans and poultry. Several studies have been carried out on MRSA on poultry, but this study was conducted to find out the whole scenario of MRSA at the farm level. A total of 100 samples were collected randomly from different poultry farms and retail shops in Khulna city to investigate this study. MRSA was isolated and identified by culturing antibiotic susceptibility testing, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Among the 100 samples, 57% were positive for S. aureusand 80.70% of the isolated S. aureus showed hemolysis on blood agar. Among the 57 isolates, 78.94% were MRSA (oxacillin) and 19.29% were vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) phenotypically. Surprisingly, 59.64% of S. aureus results showed a positive mecA gene. It is also concerning that 60% of broiler meat and 53.84% of farm personnel were infected with MRSA. The present study revealed that MRSA could be transmitted from poultry to humans.

Background: Mastitis is one of the most devastating conditions for the dairy farms because of its alarming impact on production. Khulna is one of the dairy intensive regions of Bangladesh but comprehensive epidemiological studies regarding prevalence and risk factors of sub-clinical mastitis with antibiogram of the causative bacteria are scant. Therefore, an epidemiological study was conducted in Khulna district to investigate the prevalence and risk factor of sub-clinical mastitis in lactating dairy cows with antibiogram of the causative bacteria. Methods: Five dairy farms were selected and a total of 400 quarter milk samples of 100 dairy cows were subjected to California Mastitis Test to detect sub-clinical mastitis. Antibiogram study was performed to determine sensitivity and resistant pattern of the isolated bacteria. Results: An overall cow level prevalence of sub-clinical mastitis were recorded as 28%. Risk factors like type of breed, body condition score, milk yield, grass feeding, udder washing before milking, drying of the udder after washing, production system, dry cow therapy, stimuli before milking and milking techniques were statistically significant for the occurrence of sub-clinical mastitis. Antibiogram study revealed that most of the isolated 33.03% E. coli and 16.96% Staphylococcus sp. were sensitive to amoxicillin, gentamicin and trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole.
