With the advancement in technology, non-linear loads, continue to increase, and the enigma of harmonics is getting more and more serious. The huge addition of electronic loads in power systems has formed the problem of harmonic generation that has resulted in many associated drawbacks. This paper aims to analyze the harmonics in advanced power electronics-based systems and describes a solution to mitigate them through two distinguished filtering techniques. A rigorous analysis is done concerning the generation of harmonic distortion through different types of loads and harmonic mitigation by employing passive and active power filters. The active power (adaptive) filtering method mitigates all sorts of undesirable frequency components using artificial intelligence (AI) based algorithms by calculating the weight of the fundamental component and generating a harmonics replica to subtract it from the original periodic wave. The simulations that were done show that the indicated techniques can mitigate undesirable harmonics and can lower the total harmonic distortion (THD) effectively according to the statutory limit of the IEEE 519-2014 standard, thus lowering the associated drawbacks of harmonic generation in advanced power electronics systems.
This paper presents a brief overview of archetypal criticism, a literary theory that seeks to identify universal patterns and themes in literature rooted in the human psyche. It is based on the idea of archetypes, symbols and motifs in the collective unconscious of humanity, popularized by Carl Jung. As applied to literature, the theory of archetypal criticism involves exploring these universal themes and symbols in work and how they reflect the human condition. The paper aims to analyze William Shakespeare's tragedy The Merchant of Venice through the lens of archetypal criticism to uncover deeper meanings in the literature. The play explores themes of justice, mercy, and true love through its complicated characters and dramatic plot. Through archetypal criticism, the play delves deeper into its universal meaning. It reveals psychological and emotional truths about the human condition, inviting reflection on beliefs and values that shape our experiences in the world. The paper explores the play by applying archetypal criticism. There are archetype characters of Shylock and Jessica that embody the outsider archetype as Jews in a predominantly Christian society and moneylenders. The archetypal criticism also explores different forms of love, including romantic love between Bassanio and Portia, the friendship between Antonio and Bassanio, and the complex relationship between Shylock and Jessica. The theme of revenge is embodied by Shylock and depicts an archetype. The play features archetypal symbols, including the casket challenge, the green-eyed monster, the test of worthiness, and the trickster. Some situations in the play and the play's ending are also significant from an archetypal perspective.
The research is a qualitative textual analysis of Shakespeare’s tragedy, disguised as the comedy. The Merchant of Venice, through Louis Althusser’s theory of Interpellation. Althusser defines ideology as a system of representation through discourse and language which control our existence. So, this research paper aims to analyze the play’s language associated with the character’s power, identity, and ideology. Moreover, this research also highlights how the play The Merchant of Venice depicts the relationship between Christians and Jews and their unyielding disdain for each other’s cultures. In addition, it reflects Venetian’ society’s psyche through Shylock. Also, it gives an account of a society filled with capitalism and its anxieties, class stratification, religious extremism, hypocrisy, racism, homophobia, and human alienation. Althusser argues that self-consciousness is painted through “contrast differentiation,” and language is a way to create ideology and its fixation. Meanwhile, ideology is unable to function beyond language, which is called Interpellation. Althusser also substantiates that individual and collective human behaviors rise through the underlying structures of society as reflected through Christian’s ingrained prejudices against Jews and Jew’s behavior by absurd stereotypes. Althusser also addresses that material actions are incorporated through quantifiable practices governed by material ideological apparatus. Further, he elaborates that an individual has no intrinsic signification; instead, he is merely a subject in social divisions designated by hierarchical ideology, as Shylock is treated as “other” under the preeminent doctrine of Christianity. Furthermore, he sheds light on the hegemony of powerful discourse through which superiors keep subservient to the level of conformity and dehumanization. Thus, by depicting the ideology of societal conditioning and reinforcement, capitalism, colonialism, racism, anti-Semitism, and patriarchy, this paper delves deep into Althusser’s “Repressive or Ideological State Apparatuses and its functions both by violence and ideology highlighted in The Merchant of Venice.
