The purpose of this article is to examine the drivers of global standardization and localization of International Human Resource Management (IHRM) practices internalized by Pakistan's automotive industry leading to sustainable economic growth. The authors have studied the IHRM determinants influencing the automotive manufacturers, and have assessed its impact on sustainable economic growth. Analysis is developed on the antecedent IHRM theories and literature in the backdrop of Pakistan's automotive industry. The study highlights the paramount aims of host-country IHRM practices viz global standardization and localization, its impact on host-country organization's performance and resultant effect on sustainable economic growth. The article has focused, in subtle manner, on improving the explicit understanding on IHRM practices viz global standardization and localization drivers to achieve both growth for the industry and sustainable economic development of the country. The study is based on already generated literature thereby limiting the generalizability thereof, and provides a review of IHRM practices and outcomes in automobile sector in the growth context. The results have presented guidelines to researchers and practitioners doing research in human side in automotive industry providing impetus for growth, both at industry and country level.
The purpose of the study was to investigate Porter’s diamond attribute factor conditions influence on the performance of firms in the automotive industry of Pakistan. Research methodology used positivism philosophy, data collection instrument used was the structured questionnaire after conducting the pilot study; cross-sectional design was constructed, probability method constituted the data collection approach, parametric and non-parametric statistics used to analyze the data, and hypothesis tested using regression model. The sample size was 194 respondents. The research study found out that there is non-availability of empirical studies on Porter’s diamond in Pakistan. Porter’s diamond factor conditions determinant conceptual and theoretical theme has the potential to provide CA to the industry. Conclusively the study pointed out the underlying force of factor conditions being one of the attributes of Porter’s diamond having significant influence on the performance of the automotive industry of Pakistan. The study examined the automotive industry exclusively from the perspective of private, multinational corporations (MNCs) and joint ventures. There are strategic practical implications of the study findings for academia, practitioners, and government constituencies. The significance of the study lies in the pragmatic perspective provided to the automotives industry players and the government policy makers in realizing the national competitive advantage (NCA) by internalizing the factor conditions as an attribute of Porter’s diamond.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the green management and sustainable growth operations interventions specifically in the automotive industry perspective. Existing literature on green management and sustainable development has been studied with special focus on green strategy in the automotive industry as explored in the environmental-oriented research in respect of the selected automotive firms. The research unfolds the prodigious concern witnessed among the world governments, international agencies and policy decision-makers in global firms, related to green economy, green management and green strategy in order to achieve triple bottom-line impact. Paradoxically, the dominant automotive players have different green strategies for developed and developing economies. Approaches, internalizing the strategic decision-making, range from proactive to reactive. The investigation leads to a focus on main environmental initiatives and issues in the automotive industry of Pakistan. Significant improvement is needed to tackle environmental concerns and to acquire the catalyst effect of green management interventions to abate and reverse the damage already done to environment. The study of Pakistan may offer value for researchers and practitioners for further research in green management and green strategy in national industry context.
The purpose of this study was to investigate theoretical and practical implications of Porter’s diamond demand conditions attribute improving the performance of firms in the automotive industry of Pakistan. Empirical based, positivism philosophy governs the study; pilot study was the integral part which entailed finalizing the self-administered questionnaire through which instrument reliability and validity established. Research methodology included various facets of empirical research. Data analysis and findings drawn by applying statistics, both descriptive and inferential. Justified by study findings safe conclusions drawn that Porter’s diamond demand conditions do have the strength to provide positive impact on the performance of firms operating in the auto industry. Through this study industry players arguably gain insight on diamond conditions context and improve the performance of firm. This is the first time such study was conducted in Pakistan. Demand conditions determinant study made contribution to theory and supported that Porter’s diamond demand conditions are viable component to be applied on industry like automotive. Practical implications include improving the performance of firms by effective use of demand conditions determinant by the practicing managers. Government can understand the concept of demand conditions and its positive implication for the industry. The diamond theory demand conditions attribute is tested for the first time in automotive industry of Pakistan. The study results are specific to the auto industry of Pakistan. Generalizability of results in other industries may be tested with further future research.
The study's purpose was to investigate through empirical research the moderating role of government in the relationship of porter diamond factor conditions attribute and firm’s performance in the automotive industry of Pakistan. The research methodology used positivism philosophy, a pilot study carried out to determine the reliability and validity of the instrument. The descriptive and inferential statistics constituted an integral part of statistical analysis. 194 samples selected through random sampling, a self-administered questionnaire was served to them, 166 responses received and studied. For moderation macro, PROCESS v3.0 (model 1) used to test the hypothesis. The findings of the study indicate the absence of such a study in the auto industry of Pakistan. Government policy influenced the firm’s performance in the automotive industry. Government policy did not play a moderating role in the relationship of porter diamond factor conditions determinant and firm’s performance. Theoretical implications reflect that the government's role as a moderator between the relationship of porter diamond factor conditions and the firm’s performance remained not significant. Practical implications indicate that government policy has influence over the firm’s performance, nonetheless, government policy’s mediating role between porter’s diamond factor conditions and firm’s performance have no effect. Moderation results provided a theoretical and practical context for academia, industry players, and policymakers
