En Ecuador, las provincias de los Ríos y Bolívar siempre se han caracterizado por un desarrollo agrícola importante y constante. Lamentablemente la mala gestión del recurso hídrico es un problema que se viene acarreando en todo el país desde hace muchos años. Es por eso que el presente trabajo muestra si las condiciones climáticas de la cuenca del Río Santa Rosa satisfacen este desarrollo agrícola. Para esto, por medio del software ArcGIS (SIG), se realizó la caracterización geomorfológica de la cuenca, información que sirvió para posteriormente determinar el balance hídrico de la misma, obteniendo que el área de estudio presenta dos etapas en el año, una de enero a abril con excedentes hídricos y otra de mayo a diciembre con déficits. Posterior a esto se determinó la escorrentía superficial de la cuenca con la metodología planteada por Ferguson, obteniéndose un valor de 62'858,679.45 de m3/año. El volumen de escurrimiento sirvió para realizar una comparación con los requerimientos hídricos y de riego calculados para los principales cultivos de la zona (cacao, arroz, banano, cítricos), obteniendo como resultado que el escurrimiento sólo puede suplir el 46% de los requerimientos de riego de dichos cultivos en la cuenca. Finalmente, por medio de una evaluación multicriterio a través de variables como precipitación, pendiente, drenajes, y cobertura de suelos se determinó las zonas susceptibles a inundaciones, comprobando que el 89% de la cuenca baja se encuentra en susceptibilidad alta a inundaciones y que poblados como Beldaco, Tres Marías y la Cooperativa Buena Suerte permanecen en constante riesgo a sufrir inundaciones.
En el territorio ecuatoriano, la provincia de Bolívar ha venido extendiendo año tras año su frontera agrícola, sin tener en cuenta la oferta y demanda de agua en la zona. Por esta razón, la presente investigación se centró en llevar a cabo la caracterización hidrológica de la cuenca alta del río Sibimbe mediante el uso de herramientas de Sistema de Información Geográfica - SIG, con la finalidad de determinar si la oferta de agua permite suplir los requerimientos hídricos del área cultivada. Con base a lo mencionado anteriormente, se procedió a estimar los principales parámetros morfométricos de la cuenca, y una vez obtenidos se realizó un balance hídrico espacial mensual, adaptado a los conceptos desarrollados por la FAO y a la situación actual de la zona, lo cual permitió identificar dos etapas en cuanto a la oferta y demanda de agua. Por un lado, de febrero a mayo existe excedente de agua, y por el otro, de junio a enero existe déficit de agua. Así mismo, basado en la metodología del Servicio de Conservación de Suelos –SCS, ajustado por Fegurson, se aplicó un modelo de escorrentía mensual directa, el cual permitió conocer que la cantidad de agua superficial aportada al caudal del río Sibimbe es de 25,426,560 m3 por año. Finalmente, se aplicó la metodología de la FAO para determinar los requerimientos de riego de los principales cultivos, los cuales fueron de 22,263,951.28 m3 por año. En conclusión, se determinó que la escorrentía puede suplir los requerimientos de riego de los cultivos en la cuenca alta del río Sibimbe durante el año. Por lo tanto, las entidades públicas ecuatorianas deben priorizar la intervención en la zona de acuerdo al ámbito de sus competencias, con la finalidad de brindar una sostenibilidad a través del tiempo.
La investigación consistió en la evaluación de la calidad del suelo de una mecánica (lubricadora) ubicada en la parroquia San Camilo, cantón Quevedo, provincia de Los Ríos, con coordenadas UTM: 671800 (S) y 9887194 (O). La metodología utilizada consistió en la toma de muestras de suelo para el análisis de parámetros físico químicos (contenido de agua en el suelo, materia orgánica, densidad aparente, color del suelo por el método de Munsell, densidad real por el método del picnómetro, pH y conductividad), los análisis fueron realizado en el laboratorio de agua y suelo de la Universidad Técnica del Estado de Quevedo (UTEQ), para el análisis estadístico de los datos obtenidos, se utilizó un diseño experimental completamente al azar (DCA) de dos factores, donde el factor A es la distancia al el sitio de contaminación y el factor B son las profundidades a 10, 20 y 30 centímetros, para identificar si existen diferencias significativas se aplicó el análisis de varianza (ANDEVA), utilizando una prueba de separación de medias de Tukey para identificar grupos homogéneos, con un 95% de confianza y 5% de error. Los resultados de los análisis de laboratorio muestran que el piso de la mecánica presenta un alto grado de contaminación, debido a que el establecimiento realiza prácticas ambientalmente incorrectas.
En Ecuador en los últimos años se ha evidenciado cada vez más, que el agua aprovechable es más escaza y con una distribución inequitativa, ya que no se encuentra en los sectores de mayor desarrollo agrícola, para esto, se realizan obras de almacenamiento de agua para diferentes usos, como la agricultura, una de estas obras es el embalse San Vicente en la provincia de Santa Elena. Los enfoques utilizados en este documento buscan determinar si las condiciones del área de estudio son aptas para transportar agua desde el embalse hasta un determinado punto el cual puede ser un reservorio en la comuna Salanguillo. El estudio determinó que la evaluación de la ruta optima es un problema complejo de criterios múltiples con objetivos en conflicto que necesitan equilibrio, utilizando la evaluación multicriterio (EMC) para evaluar los diferentes factores necesarios para encontrar rutas óptimas, y luego se usó el análisis de ruta de menor coste para encontrar la ruta optima, que no es necesariamente la de la distancia más corta. Bajo los criterios planteados, no existe una ruta óptima para conducir el agua por gravedad desde el embalse San Vicente hasta un punto especifico de la comuna Salanguillo, principalmente por factores topográficos del área de estudio.
