Peritoneal tuberculosis, carcinomatosis and pancreatic ascites are often considered as differential diagnosis of hemorrhagic ascites. Endometriosis can rarely present as hemorrhagic ascites and closely mimic these conditions. When this occurs without common clinical features of endometriosis, it can create a diagnostic challenge to the treating physician. We present three patients with endometriosis who presented with hemorrhagic ascites; two of them did not have gynecological symptoms or significant pelvic disease. These patients were evaluated several times in many centers and even received multiple courses of anti-tuberculous treatment. The diagnosis was made by histologic examination of parietal peritoneum obtained by laparoscopy or laparotomy. The diagnosis was missed possibly because of the atypical presentation, lack of clinical suspicion and incomplete assessment. In conclusion, this potentially treatable condition should be considered as a differential diagnosis for hemorrhagic ascites in a premenopausal woman.
BACKGROUNDThis is an outcome study done in an NRC unit attached to teaching hospital, the results of which are not up to the mark; 30 NRCs were established all across Andhra Pradesh and all staff trained regarding protocol based on management of severe acute malnutrition; protocol based management is specially set for them taking into account their altered physiology. In the wake of high prevalence of SAM (Severe Acute Malnutrition) and the high mortality associated with it, facility based management to reduce mortality has been started with good results. This is an outcome study on NRC (Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre) in South India.
Anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease in dogs, caused by obligate intracellular pathogens, Anaplasma platys and Anaplasma phagocytophilum. Anaplasmosis is characterized by a variety of clinical symptoms including pyrexia as well as non-symptomatic thrombocytopenia. Advances in molecular techniques have enabled physicians and diagnosticians to use polymerase chain reaction for identification of theses pathogens in dogs. A total of 80 samples collected from the veterinary clinics in Bengaluru were considered for the study for screening Anaplasma platys and Anaplasma phagocytophilum by polymerase chain reaction. Seventeen out of eighty samples were positive for A. platys. Co-infection of A. platys with Babesia gibsoni and Ehrlichia canis was also reported in this study. Anaplasma platys positive samples were confirmed by sequencing and submitted to GenBank. No samples were found positive for Anaplasma phagocytophilum in the current study.
Introduction: The onset of menstruation is a physiological milestone in women’ reproductive life. Menarche is a recognized as one of the most vivid and emotional laden events for human faunal regardless of specific culture practices of the society. Approach and design: In this study, Pre-experimental design was adopted. Samples and sampling criteria: Convenient sampling technique was adopted to select 90 adolescent girls. The knowledge was measured by using structured knowledge questionnaire regarding menstrual hygiene. A structured video clips was showed for the samples. The data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The results of study revealed that the significance of difference between the mean pre-test and mean post-test knowledge scores which was statistically tested using paired ‘t’ test and was found to be highly significant. The results also show that the Pre-test knowledge scores of adolescent girls had no significant association with their selected demographic variables except their previous exposure to education programme and Post-test knowledge scores of adolescent girls had no significant association with their selected demographic variables except their studying class. Conclusion: Menstrual hygiene a very important risk factor for reproductive tract infection, it is a vital aspects of health education for adolescent girls.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
