Os santos e suas festas 1 Entre a última semana de setembro e os últimos dias de outubro 2 , Cosme e Damião são festejados por crianças e adultos, com doces e brinquedos, nas casas, ruas e nas praças; em centros, terreiros e igrejas. As festas dos santos acontecem em lojas de doces, missas, giras, no dar e receber doces, na espera das filas em frente aos portões, no correr pelas ruas atrás de saquinhos. Correndo atrás de doce: socialidades na festa de Cosme e Damião no Rio de Jan...
Neste trabalho, trago algumas giras festivas e de consulta de ibejada - as Crianças que integram o panteão de divindades da umbanda e são tema de minha pesquisa de doutorado - observadas em centros de umbanda do Rio de Janeiro. Tomando a presença e circulação de doces nesses rituais, procuro pensar em como e o que a comida nos comunica acerca dessas entidades e desses eventos. Os doces alimentam e qualificam essas Crianças. Balas, cocadas, suspiros, peras e maçãs circulam nesses rituais materializando, mediando e comunicando conselhos, proteção, agradecimentos, pedidos e devoção.
Resumo: As ibejadas são entidades infantis que, junto aos caboclos, pretos-velhos, exus e pombagiras, habitam o panteão da Umbanda. Em uma gira de ibejada, doce é comida, comida de Criança. Nos doces, funde-se o sabor à qualidade, o substantivo ao adjetivo - os doces alimentam e qualificam as entidades infantis e seus rituais. Neste artigo, veremos como suspiros, cocadas, frutas e bolos compõem um banquete que é minuciosamente preparado para homenagear as Crianças, entidades que se caracterizam pela alegria, pureza e doçura. Nas giras, a doçura não é apenas uma qualidade dessas entidades. Ela tem cheiro, gosto, sons, cores, textura, invadem nossas narinas e boca; e sentir toda essa doçura é sentir as Crianças.
