Der literaturwissenschaftliche Diskurs befasste sich mit dem Problem der Aggression bisher überwiegend unter dem Vorzeichen des bloß Negativen im Kontext von Drama und Erzählung. In dieser Studie wird nicht nur motiv-thematisch, sondern auch strukturell ein Zusammenhang von lyrischem Sprechen und Aggression ausfindig gemacht. Die Frage nach Aggression in lyrischer Dichtung gibt einen wichtigen Anstoß für die Forschung, denn daran schlie ßen sich Fragen nach Gattung und Gender an: Schreiben Männer nur »männlich« und Frauen nur »weiblich«? Gibt es eine geschlechtliche Zuschreibung von Aggression? Welche Rolle spielt sie in der Lyrik?
