This paper reports an analysis of the websites of UK departments of library and information science. Inlink counts of these websites revealed no statistically significant correlation with the quality of the research carried out by these departments, as quantified using departmental grades in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise and citations in Google Scholar to publications submitted for that Exercise. Reasons for this lack of correlation include: difficulties in disambiguating departmental websites from larger institutional structures; the relatively small amount of researchrelated material in departmental websites; and limitations in the ways that current Web search engines process linkages to URLs. It is concluded that departmental-level webometric analyses do not at present provide an appropriate technique for evaluating academic research quality, and, more generally, that standards are needed for the formatting of URLs if inlinks are to become firmly established as a tool for website analysis.Keywords: Citation analysis; Research Assessment Exercise; Webometrics IntroductionCitation analysis has been used for many years to probe a range of phenomena in the information sciences, such as mapping the development of novel research areas, identifying the formal and informal links between researchers in a subject, and assessing research impact [1][2][3][4]. The advent of the Web soon led to the suggestion that "sitations" or "inlinks", i.e., links between Web sites, could be used in much the same way as conventional bibliographic citations [5,6], these early studies leading to the concept of webometrics [7][8][9].Citation analyses have been carried out at multiple levels, with studies of the numbers of citations to individuals, research groups, departments, institutions and even to countries. Similar approaches were rapidly developed for the analysis of inlink data [10]. El texto presenta, por primera vez, un panorama situacional de las revistas científicas peruanas vigentes. A partir de los registros de LATINDEX y luego de un proceso de depuración, se identificaron 138 publicaciones y se caracterizaron sobre la base de cinco variables: procedencia geográfica, organización editora, periodicidad de publicación, formato de distribución y área temática. Se encontró que, en su mayoría, las revistas peruanas son editadas en Lima (66.7%) por una universidad (73.9%), tienen una periodicidad semestral (56.5%), circulan tanto en formato impreso como electrónico (67.4%) y publican principalmente artículos sobre ciencias (agrícolas, de la ingeniería, exactas, naturales y médicas) (35.5%). El estudio señala, además, ciertas situaciones desfavorables y oportunidades de mejora en el sector editorial científico peruano.

El estudio aplica técnicas de análisis de citas para caracterizar el uso de información de los docentes de cuatro departamentos (Ciencias, Ingeniería, Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades) de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). A partir de la producción académica de este grupo, publicada de 2010 a 2014 e indexada en Scopus, se obtuvo una muestra aleatoria de 217 documentos. De este conjunto, se extrajeron las referencias bibliográficas y se examinaron para determinar su cantidad, edad y tipo documental. Dado que las diferencias encontradas entre departamentos corroboran, en general, la literatura, se sostiene que el área disciplinar juega un rol importante en la conducta informativa de los académicos.
Fátima Cáceres de Baldarrago fue una botánica peruana reconocida por su conocimiento de la familia Cactaceae y de la flora del sur peruano. Así, su inquietud por aprender de las colecciones científicas, y el manejo y revisión de diversos taxones la llevó a hacer prácticas en el Instituto Nacional de Innovación Agraria en La Joya, Arequipa y en el Herbarium Truxillense de la Universidad Nacional de Trujillo en La Libertad, así como en el Herbario San Marcos del Museo de Historia Natural de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, institución con la cual creó un enlace colaborativo permanente.
