The aim of this study was to compare the relative nutritional benefit of edible Malaysian fishes from the coast of Terengganu in Malaysia, as well as to perform a taxonomical characterization and metal assessment. Discrimination between species was carried out by a morphological and molecular approach by evaluating the total concentrations of metals by ICP-MS analyses and the fatty acids (FA) composition using the GC–MS approach on the fish fillet tissues. The taxonomical studies detected fishes of 11 families and 13 species. The heavy metal assessment showed that all detected elements did not exceed the regulatory limit stated by Malaysian Food Regulations. The proportion of saturated fatty acids (SFA) ranged from 33 to 58.34%, followed by the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) values from 24 to 51.8%, and the lowest proportion was of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), ranging from 12.7 to 35.9%. The ω-3/ω-6 PUFA and PUFA/SFA ratios were determined in the range 1.1 to 7.4 and 0.35 to 1.6, respectively. The C20:5 ω-3 and C22:6 ω-3 acids were detected at levels comparable to those found in the corresponding species from similar tropical marine ecosystems. The high FA values can be useful biochemical tools for comparing the relative nutritional benefits of these biodiverse and non-toxic edible Malaysian fishes.
Rigs-to-Reefs (R2R) is an alternative for oil and gas industry for decommissioning purpose. The program will benefit marine life as an artificial reef for a sustainable solution to promote ecosystem growth. For any oil platform considered for reefing, an extensive study on the suitability and performance of the artificial reef is essential. These studies will evaluate the stability and relevance of the structure as an artificial reef when deployed on the seabed. This paper presents the research on dynamic response and flow characteristics of a conceptual proposed R2R platform. The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation is intended to study the dynamic responses and flow characteristics analysis of a jacket oil platform for optimal settlement and growth of corals. Artificial reef performances were evaluated by calculating the performance indices of the upwelling and back eddy profile. It was found that the upwelling efficiency index is higher at current direction normal to the platform due to the higher frontal area exposed to the incoming flow. Meanwhile, back eddy efficiency index shows a significant low value for all directions. The CFD results presented will be discussed in terms of the possibility of better performance of an artificial reef which considering engineering and biological aspects
Friction material in an automotive brake system plays an important role for effective and safe brake performance. A single material has never been sufficient to solve performance related issues. Current research aimed to examine properties of Boron mixed brake pads by comparing them with the commercial brake pads. Friction coefficient of Boron mixed brake pads and commercial brake pads were significantly different and increased with the increase in surface roughness. The abrupt reduction of friction coefficient is more significant in commercial brake pad samples than in Boron mixed brake pad formulations. Fade occurred in commercial brake pad sample at lower temperatures. Boron formulations are more stable than their commercial counterparts.
The use of new technologies has impacted effectiveness in learning which contributes to the smoothness of language performance. The language implication involves all subjects, including Malay foreign language. For instance, the use of mobile learning has been shown a considerable and dynamic potential in learning Malay foreign language. Mobile application usage enables a variety of teaching innovations that assist educators and students in pursuing knowledge and language skills. Thus, this concept paper aimed to identify the Learning Theory which related to mobile application. Apart from that, it is also to explore the importance and effectiveness of mobile application usage in Malay foreign language instruction. The literature review is based on publications from 2015 to the present. It is hoped this study can be used to benefit the foreign students while integrating the mobile application in their learning, and to improve the language performance in line with current developments.
