A coral reef buildup in the Djebel Chott (Western Dahra, Algeria) : a witness of the Middle Miocene maximum transgression in the Mediterranean. Coral reef buildup with Tarbellastraea anomala Mtchelotti, 1871 and Platycoenia turonensis Michelin, 1847, of Middle Miocene age, occur in a sandy-conglomeratic sequence on the substratum of the Oued Chelif mouth (Djebel Chott, Dahra, Algeria). The age of the reefs range from Langhian to Serravallian, with Praeorbulina glomerosa (Blow), 1956 (upper part of Blow N8 zone) and Globigerina nepenthes Todd, 1957 (N14 Blow zone), at the top. The reefal sequences are a witness of the Middle Miocene maxi¬ mum transgression event of the western Mediterranean.
