Objective To investigate the efficacy of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) on cervical myofascial pain following neck dissection in reducing pain and improving cervical range of motion (ROM).Methods Forty-six patients with cervical myofascial pain following neck dissection surgery were recruited and subdivided at random into two equal groups. The ESWT group received ESWT once a week for 4 weeks (0.25 mL/mm2, 1,000 shocks) and a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (3 times/day for 4 weeks). The control group received only topical NSAID. The pain assessment was done by using the visual analog scale (VAS) and pressure algometry. A cervical ROM device was used for the assessment of the lateral flexion and rotation of the neck ROM on both sides. All measurements were collected at baseline, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks. Results The ESWT group revealed a significant improvement in all parameters at post I and post II than did the control group (p>0.001), that revealed a statistical decrease only in the VAS score at post I without any statistical difference in the pain threshold and neck ROM. However, there were statistical differences in all parameters at post II compared to those at pre-treatment and post I (p<0.001).Conclusion As a confirmation of the efficacy of ESWT in cervical myofascial pain control following neck dissection, we observed better results with no side effects in the ESWT group (Clinical Trial Registry No. PACTR202002648274347).
Purpose The main aim of the trial was to assess the combined impact of graded Thera-Band strengthening exercises and scapular stabilization exercises on shoulder pain, physical function, and quality of life (QoL) in post-mastectomy adhesive capsulitis (AC). Methods Seventy females with unilateral post-mastectomy AC partook in the trial. Participants were subdivided equally into two groups at random. Both groups obtained the traditional physical therapy program; in addition, the intervention group received graded Thera-Band exercises for shoulder muscles and scapular stabilization exercises 5 days a week for 8 weeks. Range of motion (ROM) and muscle power of shoulder were assessed by digital goniometer and handheld dynamometer, respectively. Disability of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire (DASH) was utilized for assessment of shoulder function and visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain measurement while short-form (SF-36) for QoL assessment. All evaluation data was recorded prior to the trial and at the eighth week of interventions for both groups. Results All participants achieved improvements in shoulder ROM, muscle power, pain, and all aspects of QoL; however, higher statistical improvements were reported in all measurements with respect to strengthening exercises group (p < 0.001). Conclusion The addition of graded Thera-Band strengthening exercises and scapular stabilization exercises in post-mastectomy AC rehabilitation program has significant benefits in shoulder function and patients’ QoL. This study compared dimensional stability and adaptability of two resin composites [Filtek P90 and Filtek Supreme XT] after storage in different pH media. Methods: For dimensional stability, cylindrical specimens were prepared either from Filtek P90 or Filtek Supreme XT. Specimens' dimensions were measured before and after storage in neutral [pH7] or acidic saliva [pH 3.6] for 1 week, 1month or 3 months. Volumetric changes were calculated. For adaptability, 80 class V cavities were made in sound human teeth. The cavities were restored with Filtek P90 or Filtek supreme XT. The adaptation was evaluated using stereomicroscope; before and after storage in acidic or neutral saliva for 1 week,1 or 3 months. Results:Filtek P90 showed significantly higher contraction compared to Filtek Supreme XT only after 3 months storage. After 1 week or 1 month, the difference in volumetric changes between two material was statistically non-significant. The pH of storage media showed non-significant effect on volumetric changes of both composites. For adaptability to cavity walls in acidic saliva, no statistically significant difference was found between gap dimensions at tooth restoration interface for both Filtek P90 and Filtek Supreme XT. However, in neutral saliva, Filtek P90 showed statistically significantly higher mean gap dimensions than Filtek Supreme XT through all time storage. Conclusions:Silorane-based resin composite undergoes volumetric changes comparable to nanohybrid resin composite except on long term storage where it revealed contraction. The adaptation of silorane based composite was worse compared to that of nanohybrid composite in neutral pH media. Objective: This clinical trial was conducted to compare the efficacy of fluoride varnish containing xylitol coated calcium and phosphate or potassium nitrate gel versus conventional fluoride varnish in the management of hypersensitivity of non-carious exposed root surfaces in adult patients. Material and Methods: 35 patients having 105 hypersensitive teeth were randomly allocated to be treated either using Embrace varnish (PULPDENT Corporation, Watertown, MA, USA) or UltraEz gel (Ultradent Products Inc. South Jordan, UT, USA) or Fluoride varnish FluoroDose (Centrix Inc., Milford, Connecticut, USA), all agents were used according to the manufacturers’ instructions. Hypersensitivity scores were assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS), after applying different stimuli. The assessment was done at baseline, after 4 hours of application, after two days, then after 4, 8 and 12 months. Results: UltraEZ gel showed the best immediate relief with a significant difference from other treatment methods, fluoride varnish showed the best relief at both short and long term follow up periods. Embrace varnish showed the least success in reducing hypersensitivity. Conclusions: Fluoride varnish showed the best reduction in hypersensitivity values while UltraEZ showed the best immediate relief and Embrace varnish showed the least efficacy
