Periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) are commonly treated with antibiotic-impregnated bone cement (AIBC). We described a 62-year-old female, who showed After 18 hours of surgery, symptoms of Red Man Syndrome (RMS) and other hypersensitivities were caused by a spacer containing vancomycin. Vancomycin can cause a variety of hypersensitivity reactions, including RMS and anaphylaxis. It can be challenging for physicians to manage emergency RMS features and life-threatening reactions such as anaphylaxis shock after using vancomycin-loaded bone cement following PJI. The patient received immediate emergency healthcare, intravenous fluid therapy, epinephrine, corticosteroids, and antihistamines in response to serious side effects, including flushing, erythema, agitation, urticaria, tachycardia, pruritus on the trunk and buttocks, severe itching, hypovolemia, macular rashes, and exfoliative dermatitis. Delayed surgery to remove antibiotic-loaded bone cement has been suggested as a successful treatment for periprosthetic joint infections (PJI).
This research aims at answering the questions on why there are still limited numbers of students with disabilities to continue their study in tertiary education, what problems faced by the students and the universities, and how universities set the policy in accepting students with disabilities. It is a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Semi structured interviews were applied to students of special schools and inclusive schools, school principals, and university top management. The research proved that the private universities in Jakarta only accepted students with disabilities limitedly. Some universities even rejected students with disabilities with various reasons. This study explores information regarding what actions should be taken to provide opportunity for students with disabilities to continue their study to higher education. For future research, it is recommended to conduct a study on the rights of students with disabilities in higher education with different approach.
This study aims at answering the questions on how the government agencies provide services to people with disabilities and what has been done in an effort to improve public services, especially for people with disabilities. Phenomenological Approach was employed in this study to understand how participants experienced the phenomenon. Data collection was obtained from semi structured interviews. The research proved that up to the present time, the public service for persons with disabilities in government institutions is still very low in performance, even though the government is an institution that issues laws to carry out equal treatment to persons with disabilities and prohibits discrimination. This research also explores information regarding what efforts must be made to improve public services in government agencies. This study recommends future research which relates to training of employees of government agencies in providing good services to persons with disabilities with a different approach.
