O conhecimento da variabilidade espacial dos atributos químicos do solo é fundamental quando se pensa em uma agricultura mais rentável e ambientalmente sustentável. A heterogeneidade do solo inicia com os processos pedogenéticos, que têm interação direta com os elementos climáticos e os fatores bióticos que vão se sucedendo ao longo do tempo. As amostragens de solo usuais contemplam a coleta de pequeno número de amostras, retiradas na profundidade de 0 -0,20 m. Estas amostragens produzem resultados insuficientes para proporcionar a correção do solo conforme a variabilidade espacial de suas características. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a variabilidade dos atributos químicos pH, soma de bases (SB), capacidade de troca catiônica (T) e saturação por bases (V%), em duas áreas, sob sistema de plantio convencional (SPC) e direto na palha (SPD), em bioma de cerrado, no município de Uberaba, MG. A área em plantio convencional é irrigada por pivô central, distando 500 m da área em SPD, cultivada em regime de sequeiro. Estabeleceu-se, para cada sistema, um grid de amostragem de 200 x 400 m, com 45 pontos georreferenciados, distantes 50 m entre si. Foram coletadas cinco subamostras em cada ponto, nas profundidades 0 -0,5, 0,05 -0,10, 0,10 -0,15 e 0,15 -0,20 m. As amostras foram analisadas para determinação dos valores de pH, SB, T e V%. Os dados foram submetidos à estatística descritiva, determinando-se média, mediana, moda, desvio padrão, coeficiente de variação, assimetria, curtose, valores mínimo e máximo e amplitude. A estatística clássica permite avaliar possíveis variações entre os atributos, sem, contudo, considerar a posição espacial dos pontos de amostragem. Com a utilização dos variogramas e da interpolação dos dados, por krigagem, é possível caracterizar a variabilidade espacial dos atributos de um solo e definir a amplitude do domínio de cada amostragem. Através do software GS+, foi avaliada a dependência espacial, por meio do ajuste de semivariogramas, predominando o modelo exponencial, seguido pelo esférico. Os resultados indicaram haver variabilidade espacial dos atributos avaliados, com teores variando entre as classes baixa a alta. Observou-se menor variação vertical dos atributos na área em SPC. Na área sob SPD, a camada de 0 -0,10 m apresentou maiores teores de todos atributos. Com exceção da saturação por bases, na camada de 0,10 -0,15 m, no SPD, todas as outras variáveis apresentaram dependência espacial, possibilitando, assim, a confecção dos mapas de krigagem. O alcance da dependência espacial variou entre 51 a 220 m, no SPC, e de 55 m a 155 m no SPD. A utilização das técnicas de geoestatística permitiu um melhor entendimento da dinâmica da variabilidade dos atributos do solo nos sistemas avaliados.
