RESUMEN La investigación se realizó en el mercado agropecuario estatal ¨Trocha¨ de la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba, municipio Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. Se hizo con el objetivo de realizar una segmentación demográfica, encaminada a determinar la demanda de los productos agrícolas, así como a garantizar una adecuada comercialización y aseguramiento alimentario de los trabajadores y consumidores de la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba. Se empleó la técnica de la encuesta grupal con el propósito de buscar información sobre la comercialización de productos agrícolas. Siendo aplicada al universo de la población relacionado con la comercialización de dichos productos, se comprobó la demanda de los principales productos agrícolas, así como, el horario de mayor afluencia al punto de venta. Los precios de los productos ofertados se consideran lo más acorde posible, aunque se debe continuar con los análisis sobre los precios y la calidad, además de lograr una mejor manipulación y traslado de los productos. Se realizó un estudio de segmentación demográfica para caracterizar a los concurrentes al mercado que permite la posterior toma de decisiones para mejorar el nivel de ventas. ABSTRACT The research was carried out in the state agricultural market "Trocha" of the city of Santiago de Cuba, Santiago de Cuba municipality, Cuba. It was done with the objective of carrying out a demographic segmentation, aimed at determining the demand for agricultural products, as well as guaranteeing adequate marketing and food insurance for workers and consumers in the city of Santiago de Cuba. The group survey technique was used in order to seek information on the marketing of agricultural products. Being applied to the universe of the population related to the commercialization of said products, the demand for the main agricultural products was verified, as well as the time of greatest influx at the point of sale. The prices of the products offered are considered as consistent as possible, although the price and quality analyzes must continue, in addition to achieving better handling and transfer of the products. A demographic segmentation study was carried out to characterize the market participants, which allows subsequent decision-making to improve the level of sales. Las plantas ornamentales además de embellecer, tienen utilidad medicinal, melífera, entomológica y ambiental, sin embargo, los estudios que se realizan en este grupo son poco representativos. El objetivo fue evaluar la diversidad y la percepción social sobre la flora ornamental presente en fincas suburbanas de Santiago de Cuba y sus potencialidades para generar bienes y servicios a escala comunitaria. Seleccionadas las fincas se realizaron muestreos para establecer la composición y diversidad de ornamentales evaluando la Riqueza de especies, Dominancia de Simpson y Diversidad general, en los períodos poco lluvioso y lluvioso. Luego se aplicaron entrevistas a personas vinculadas con la producción o uso de especies ornamentales. Se encontraron 6778 individuos pertenecientes a 36 familias, 52 géneros y 57 especies. La composición botánica fue variable tendiendo al aumento de un período al otro, siendo las familias Amaryllidaceae, Asteraceae, Araceae y Euphorbiaceae las que más contribuyeron. La riqueza varió entre 1 y 24 especies reportándose la mayor en la finca La Esperanza para ambos períodos. Los valores de dominancia estuvieron dentro del rango establecido, aunque la tendencia fue al aumento con la llegada de la lluvia, influenciada por el 26,31 % de las especies que fueron las más abundantes. La diversidad general varió entre 0 y 2,7720 disminuyendo con el cambio de período; sin embargo en las fincas Tres Palmas, La Juliana y La Sorpresa no se obtuvieron valores dentro del rango establecido. Existe buena percepción social sobre este grupo de plantas y mejorar su disponibilidad fue reconocido como una necesidad.
