ResumoO objetivo desta pesquisa consiste na proposição de uma alternativa de tecnologia para a remoção de ferro e manganês em fontes de abastecimento público no município de Crato, Ceará, a partir da avaliação de parâmetros de qualidade de água atuais. A remoção desses compostos torna-se necessária haja vista os problemas associados a eles quando presentes em valores acima dos limites permissíveis. A concentração elevada provoca alterações físicas e químicas na água, como mudança de coloração e odor característico, levando a rejeição ao consumo da água. Diante disto, realizou-se análises físico-químicas em 35 pontos de abastecimento, escolhidos conforme critério de localização e existência de dados anteriores sobre sua qualidade organoléptica, a fim de identificar a concentração destes metais e propor um método compatível para sua remoção e controle eficiente. Para tanto, aplicou-se o teste de Wilcoxon, para avaliar o grau de dispersão dos dados em torno da média de concentração e em seguida ordenou os dados em faixas de concentração. A partir da análise dos resultados, foi recomendado oxidação por hipoclorito de cálcio seguida de filtração em leito de carvão ativado, por ser um dos processos mais eficientes de remoção dos compostos de ferro e manganês solúveis.
AbstractThe objective of this research is to propose a technology alternative for the removal of iron and manganese from public water sources in the municipality of Crato, Ceará, based on the evaluation of current water quality parameters. The removal of these compounds becomes necessary given the problems associated with them when present in values above the allowable limits. The high concentration causes physical and chemical changes in the water, such as color change and characteristic odor, leading to rejection of water consumption. In order to identify the concentration of these metals and to propose a compatible method for its removal and efficient control, the physico-chemical analysis was carried out in 35 supply points, chosen according to the location criteria and the existence of previous data on its organoleptic quality. A presente pesquisa avaliou a partida de um Reator UASB no tratamento de efluente doméstico por meio de parâmetros físico-químicos e operacionais. A partida empregou inoculação de 10 m³ de lodo anaeróbio como semeadura. Durante 12 semanas de avaliação observou-se estabilidade em relação aos parâmetros: pH, Temperatura, Alcalinidade Total (AT) e Ácidos Graxos Voláteis (AGV). Todavia, houve baixas eficiências de remoção para Sólidos Suspensos Totais (SST), Demanda Química de Oxigênio (DQO) e Demanda Bioquímica de Oxigênio (DBO), de 36,8%, 56,13% e 42,04%, respectivamente, justificadas pelas variações de vazão afluente à ETE, e pelas características do lodo ocasionando perda de sólidos com o efluente. Assim, apesar da inoculação, a partida não foi concluída, constatada, contudo expressiva menor variabilidade nas eficiências para DQO e DBO nas últimas semanas, apontando tendência do reator ao alcance do estado estacionário.
