This research first reviews the historical development of television in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia from political and cultural perspectives. Then the authors discuss a national survey done among a random sample of Saudi university students in the late 1980s. Data are presented showing television viewing amounts, program preferences, as well as information on both the importance and credibility of the visual medium.
