O presente artigo objetiva analisar a vivência de mulheres frente à tomada da decisão de interromper sua gravidez, e as questões que envolvem o atendimento psicológico nessa situação, a partir de uma revisão da literatura especializada no tema referente ao aborto induzido. Diante da iniciativa precoce da gestante de finalizar a gravidez, a eficiência da intervenção da equipe hospitalar possibilita às mulheres que optam pela interrupção da gestação um atendimento mais apropriado, reduzindo o índice de mortalidade materna e de infecções por partos clandestinos, representando um grave problema de saúde pública. A discussão do tema é relevante diante da repercussão gerada pelo projeto de lei, que tramita no Congresso, sobre a descriminalização do aborto até a 12º semana de gestação, os motivos que possam levar a essa decisão e as consequências do mesmo na vida da mulher. Portanto, torna-se necessário explorar a eficiência dos processos de intervenção e ampliar os conhecimentos acerca de tópicos como o conceito de aborto induzido, o processo decisório em relação ao aborto induzido, a ilegalidade do aborto, o (des)preparo da equipe hospitalar no atendimento ao aborto induzido e o acolhimento psicológico nessas situações.
