BACKGROUND: The Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (FTSD) and metabolic syndrome represent a growing number of public health problems in post-war countries. There is more and more evidence about a relationship between PTSD and metabolic syndrome as well as the research that indicates a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome in people suffering from PTSD. Understanding the relationship between PTSD and metabolic syndrome are important clinical and theoretical issues.OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to examine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in war veterans with a chronic PTSD.METHODS; Metabolic syndrome was investigated in 100 male war veterans with combat PTSE) and in 79 males who needed medical attention in a dispensary of family medicine.RESULTS: According to NCEP: ATP 111 metabolic syndrome was found in 35 % of war veterans with PTSD. Metabolic syndrome was identified more frequently in PTSD patients with co-morbid depression (63.6%) and in war veterans with PTSD of high intensity (66.7%).CONCLUSION: Metablie syndrome was found in more than 1/3 patients suffering from a chronic PTSD, The frequency was higher if the clinical presentation of a chronic PTSD was heavier and if PTSD was co-morbid with a depressive disorder.
IntroductionWith increasing use of Internet in everyday life there is the risk of developing Internet dependency that can be correlated with depression. Is the internet an antidepressant or Internet addiction often causes mood-altering side effects?ObjectivesThe focus is to examine correlation between depression and Internet addiction, as well as potential treatment approaches.AimsThe aim of the study was to evaluate treatment approaches and the correlation between depression and Internet addiction(IA) by use of Telepsychiatric service.MethodsA total of 100 Bosnian clients were studied. Internet Addiction Test (IAT), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Zung Depression Inventory (ZDI) was used, by Telepsychiatric service, to assess state measures of symptom severity. First, they were evaluated for their severity of Internet addiction with consideration of their behavioral characteristics and their primary purpose for computer use by IAT. Second, we investigated Depression by Telepsychiatry service with BDI and ZDI scale. Third, we investigated correlations between depression and Internet addiction.ResultsThe symptoms of IA had been founded at 59% and 41% of patients had no IA. Symptoms of depression had been found at 45% patients. Internet addiction was significantly associated with depressive symptoms; IA and depression had been found at 41% patients (P < 0.01).ConclusionsThis study reveals a significant association between Internet addiction and depressive symptoms.
Background and Aims:This study was examination by Telepsychiatry and E-consalting (telecommunication technologies with the aim of providing psychiatric services from a distance) of war related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).Methods:Many patients with PTSD have different symptoms. The authors' objective is to analize component of symptoms in PTSD.The subjects were 50 male psychiatric patients by Telepsychiatry and e-consalting with war-related PTSD by videoconferencing via broadband ADSL and WADSL by 768 kbps. Posttraumatic stress syndrom-PTSS scale and 20-item Zung selfrating scale was used to assess state measures of symptom severity. Results:The symptoms of prolonged PTSS (posttraumatic stress syndrome) with duration between six moths and two years had been founded at 38 (76 %) and 12 (24 %) of patients had no PTSS: symptoms of depression had been found at 34 (68 %) patients. The enduring personality exchange after catastrophic expiriense (with duration more than two years), had been found at 7 (14 %) patients; symptoms of depression had been found at 17 (34 %) patients after two years. Conclusions:Evolution of PTSD symptoms and continued examination and follow-up by Telepsychiatry service and e-consalting may be important in predicting the eventual development of depressive symptoms and precipitation of F 62.0 enduring personality exchange after catastrophic expiriense in the war related PTSD. Consequently, Telepsychiatry service and e-consalting it is able to serve not only PTSD but also wide range of other patient population.
Background and aims: This study was examination e-consalting by Telepsychiatry of war related Posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD) and the Enduring personality change after catastrophic experiense (EPCACE). Methods: The author´s objective is to analize component of symptoms in PTSD and EPCACE. The subjects were 200 male psychiatric patients by Telepsychiatry and e-consulting with war related PTSD by videoconferencing via broadband ADSL by 2 Mbps. Posttraumatic stress syndrome-PTSS-10 scale, HAMD and 20-item Zung self-rating scale was used to assess state measures of symptom severity. The study tested the equivalence of the two forms of service (clinical psychiatric consultation "face to face" and telepsychiatry with interactive videoconferencing psychiatric services) delivery with Client Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ-8). Results: The symptoms of prolonged PTSS(posttraumatic stress syndrome) with duration between six moths and two years had been founded at 154 (77%) and 46 (23%) of patients had no PTSS: symptoms of depression had been found at 165 (82,5%) patients. The enduring personality exchange after catastrophic experiense (F62.0), had been found at 26(13%) patients (P< 0.01); symptoms of depression had been found at 66 (33%) patients after two years. Index of the CSQ-8 in groups Face to face 21.8±2.5(M±SD) and in telepsychiatric group 22.1±2.7(M±SD). Conclusions: Evolution of PTSD symptoms and continued examination and follow-up by Telepsychiatry service and e-consalting may be important in predicting the eventual development of depressive symptoms and precipitation of EPCACE(F62.0) enduring personality exchange after catastrophic experience in the war related PTSD. The results demonstrated equivalent levels of satisfaction in both face-to-face and telepsychiatry groups.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: This study was examination e-consalting by Telepsychiatry of war related posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD),METHODS; Patients with PTSD have different symptoms. The authors' objective is to analize component of symptoms in PTSD.The subjects were 180 male psychiatric patients by Telepsychiatry and e-consulting with war relatedPTSD by videoconferencing via broadband ADSL by 2 Mbps. Posttraumatic stress syndrome-PTSSscale and 20-item.Zung self-rating scale was used to assess state measures of symptom severity,RESULTS: The symptoms of prolonged PTSS (posttraumatic stress syndrome) with duration betweensix moths and two years had been founded at 138 (76,7 %) and 42 (23,3 %) of patients had no PTSS:symptoms of depression had been found at 148 (82,2 %) patients. The enduring personality exchangeafter catastrophic expiriense (P62.0), had been found at 25 (13,8 %) patients (P< 0,01); symptoms ofdepression had been found at 61 (33.8 %) patients after two years,CONCLUSIONS: Evolution of PTSD symptoms and continued examination and follow-up by Telepsychiatry service and e-consalting may be important in predicting the eventual development ofdepressive symptoms and precipitation of F 62.0 enduring personality exchange after catastrophicexperience in the war related PTSD. Consequently.Telepsychiatry service and e-consalting it is able toserve not only PTSD but also wide range of other patient.
