The article introduces an ambient intelligence system for blind people which besides providing assistance in home environment also helps with various situations and roles in which blind people may find themselves involved. RUDO, the designed system, comprises several modules that mainly support or ensure recognition of approaching people, alerting to other household members’ movement in the flat, work on a computer, supervision of (sighted) children, cooperation of a sighted and a blind person (e.g., when studying), control of heating and zonal regulation by a blind person. It has a unified user interface that gives the blind person access to individual functions. The interface for blind people offers assistance with work on a computer, including writing in Braille on a regular keyboard and specialized work in informatics and electronics (e.g., programming). RUDO can complement the standard aids used by blind people at home, it increases their independence and creates conditions that allow them to become fully involved. RUDO also supports blind people sharing a home with sighted people, which contributes to their feeling of security and greater inclusion in society. RUDO has been implemented in a household for two years, which allows an evaluation of its use in practice.

Systémy domácej automatizácie a AAL systémy sú technológie, ktoré sa v súčasnosti veľmi rýchlo rozvíjajú. Môžu realizovať zabezpečenie obytných priestorov, vykurovanie, zónovú teplotnú reguláciu a akýkoľvek iný automatizovateľný komfort pri obsluhe a získavaní informácií o ľuďoch a stave domácnosti. Systém domácej automatizácie "RUDO" je vybavený asistenčnými technológiami, ktoré umožňujú nevidiacemu človeku plnohodnotne obsluhovať vykurovací systém, zónovú reguláciu a používať PC v oblasti odbornej informatiky.

Along with the development of new assistive technologies, including ambient intelligence (AmI) environments, new job opportunities are created for people with blindness or visual impairment. Whereas research on software development for people with blindness has been conducted since the 1960s, the design and development of electrotechnical equipment still lacks any way to compensate for the disability which would enable people with blindness to perform even the activities pertaining to this field. This article aims to introduce these new technological procedures enabling the compensation of the disability of people with blindness when designing and developing electrotechnical components (or prototypes) and their drivers by using the AmI system RUDO modules and other tools. This includes the modules enabling measuring electrotechnical quantities, tracing of oscilloscope curves, and ensuring a unified user interface for programming and operation of the devices connected. Other approaches are introduced herein that focused on the production of mechanical components for device construction. This article also contains an illustrative video of practical use of these technological procedures by a person with blindness. To assess the usability of the designed technological procedures to the work of a designer with blindness and one without visual impairment, the cognitive walkthrough method was used. The main contribution of this article is to broaden the knowledge base by the principles of involving people with blindness in the development and construction of electrotechnical components (or prototypes). Zrakový hendikep úplnej slepoty v človeku podnecuje rozširovanie schopností v iných oblastiach. Ide najmä o výrazné zlepšenie zručností pri používaní hmatu, sluchu a pamäte. Tieto zručnosti môžu nevidiaci ľudia využiť s pomocou asistenčných technológií pri hľadaní uplatnenia na trhu práce. Cieľom článku je predstaviť, ako navrhnuté riešenie v podobe ambientného systému podporuje prácu nevidiaceho v oblasti elektrotechniky a informatiky. Tým prispieva tento článok do znalostnej bázy o návrhu riešení v oblasti aktívnej podpory pracovného uplatnenia nevidiacich ľudí. V tomto článku je opísaná asistenčná technológia, ktorá dokáže využiť rozšírené zručnosti nevidiacich ľudí pri práci v oblasti odbornej informatiky a elektrotechniky. Asistenčná technológia je súčasťou prototypu ambientného systému v inteligentnej budove. Automatická asistencia sa pritom týka aj praktickej elektrotechniky, kedy nevidiacemu umožňuje zapájanie zložitejších obvodov a konštrukciu hardvéru. Nevidiaci človek pritom využíva bežné elektrotechnické komponenty bez potreby výroby špeciálnych dielov na kompenzáciu zrakového hendikepu. Zložka asistencie pri odbornej práci v oblasti informatiky obsahuje špeciálne prostredie HANIBAL zamerané na vytváranie programových kódov. Využíva bezkontextové jazyky na prácu s informáciami grafického charakteru a tiež aj na modifikácie samotného používateľského rozhrania. Prototyp ambientného systému s asistenciou pri bývaní a pri výkone práce v zamestnaní umožňuje použitie bežnej elektrotechnickej výbavy ako napr. multimeter alebo osciloskop, ktorú v ambiente inteligentnej budovy nevidiacemu sprístupní špeciálnym spôsobom pomocou umelo produkovanej reči alebo pomocou hmatu. V článku takto poukazujeme aj na novú možnosť uplatnenia nevidiacich ľudí na akademickej pôde pri vývoji v oblasti informatiky a elektrotechniky.
