<p class="abstrak" align="center"><strong><em>Abstrak</em></strong></p><p><em>Karena pandemic COVID-19 dan kebijakan pemerintah untuk melaksanakan pembelajaran daring, mahasiswa merasa mendapatkan tantangan baru dalam perkuliahan termasuk dalam mata kuliah Essay Writing. Kurangnya interaksi secara tatap muka dan keterbatasan pembelajaran daring membuat perkuliahan Essay Writing tidak maksimal dilakukan untuk praktek menulis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat persepsi mahasiswa terkait penggunaan Google Docs dalam perkuliahan Essay Writing yang telah dilakukan dosen. Data dikumpulkan dari tiga belas mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah Essay Writing melalaui penyebaran angket dan wawancara semi terstuktur. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan Google Docs untuk praktek menulis essai kolaborasi. Di samping itu, Google Docs juga membantu menciptakan lingkungan pembelajaran yang kolaboratif karena platform ini mendukung interaksi dosen dengan mahasiswa, begitupun mahasiswa dengan mahasiswa. Penggunaan Google Docs juga memberikan manfaat pada ketersediaan umpan balik dari dosen kepada mahasiswa serta mereka dengan mudah dapat melihat materi kuliah pada platform tersebut. </em></p><p class="abstrak"><strong><em>Kata</em></strong><strong><em> kunci:</em></strong><em> Google dokumen, menulis, esai.</em></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p class="abstrak" align="center"><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p class="abstrak">Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the government's policy to conduct online learning, EFL university students feel the challenge of dealing with the online learning process, including the Essay Writing Course. The lack of face-to-face interaction and limited online classes during the course makes it difficult for them to have maximum practices in essay writing. This study attempts to generate the perceptions of students in the course of writing essays to build a collaborative online learning environment using Google Docs. Data were collected from thirteen EFL university students taking an Essay Writing course through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The research found that students had a positive attitude towards the use of Google Docs for or collaborative essay writing practice. In addition, Google Docs helps create a collaborative learning environment as it supports interactions between lecturers-to-students and students-to-students and benefits from the availability of written feedbacks from lecturers and easy access to course materials.</p><p class="abstrak"><strong>Keywords:</strong> Google Docs, Writing, Essay</p>
One effect of the development communication and technology is infinite space and time in doing communication. In the past, written communication was done by using letter, but nowadays communication can be done quickly, easily and cost-effective one. It could be done by using SMS (Short Massage Service). However, it shows the reality of the absence of a clear convention about how to write SMS text creating a style of language, especially among English students of UMMY Solok. Based on the observations and interviews, the writer found that the number of lectureres complained about the contents of SMS text messages sent by students primarily in asking permission to lecturers. This coupled with the increasingly widespread slang languange often used by students. This indicates that the language used in students’ SMS requested permission from the lecturers are still having problems. The aim of this study was to analyze the style of language used in SMS while student requested permission from lecturers and in order to find out lecturers’ respond to the SMS. This research is a descriptive study that takes data from SMS text English department students that have been collected during one semester semester 2014/2015. Data were also obtained based on the interview to the English language lecturer. This study is expected to be the basis of empirical how ethical language student asked permission in the use of SMS medium to lecturers and also gives contribution to the development of instructional media, especially in English corespondence subject for English Department. This research had purpose to find out whether there was a positive effect of scavenger hunt technique on students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. Scavenger Hunt is a fact-finding and information-processing activity, where the students work in group to search for hidden items and perform task by using some clues.The method used in this research was quasi-experimental research. This research was conducted at the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Kota Solok. The samples of this research were two homogeneous classes that chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The experimental class was taught by using scavenger hunt technique, meanwhile the control class was taught by using three phase technique. The technique of gathering the data of this research was by using reading test. The result of this research showed that there was a positive effect of implementation scavenger hunt technique, where the mean score at experimental class was 77,14 and control class was 72,94. Thus, the experimental students outcomes were higher than the control class.It means that students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text taught by using Scavenger Hunt game technique was better than taught by using three phase technique. This research aimed to look at the effect of inquiry based learning strategy on students’ ability to write a descriptive text. The method of this research was quasi-experiment. The population of this research was eighth-grade students of MTsN Kota Solok. The total population was 65 students. The research results show that the pre-test means score in experimental and control classes was 46,8 and 44,4. The mean score of post-test in the experimental class was 55 and control class 51,6. Students’ ability in writing descriptive text analyzed by using t-test statistical which t calculated= 2,04 and t table (0,975: 38) = 2,02 with significant level t calculated > t table. In conclusion, the students who were taught using an Inquiry based learning strategy have better results in writing descriptive text than those who were taught without inquiry based learning. <p style="text-align: justify;">The eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Danau Kembar of West Sumatra, Indonesia, had a problem with their reading skills since they unexpectedly did not understand the texts well. The implementation of an inappropriate learning strategy was criticized as one of the factors contributing to the problem. This study aimed to determine the impact of the 3H strategy on increasing the student's ability to understand the descriptive text. It was quasi-experimental research in which two classes were assigned to experimental and control classes. Each class consisted of 24 pupils (VIII-A) as an experimental class, and 24 pupils (VIII B) as a control class were selected as a sample through an objective inspection. The mean score of understudy reading perception in the test class is 75.71 higher than the mean score of student reading comprehension in the control class is 69.54. The researcher was given 2,91 for the data T calculated and 1,68 for the Ttable. Overall, H0 was rejected, and Ha was received. In view of the findings of the research, teaching reading through the use of the 3H strategy has a positive effect on students reading understanding.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh siswa kelas delapan SMPN 2 Danau Kembar di Sumatera Barat</em><em>, Indonesia</em><em> dalam kemampuan mereka </em><em>dalam memahami teks</em><em> merupakan landasan dasar permasalahan dari penelitian ini. Metode riset ini adalah </em>quasy experiment.<em> Siswa kelas delapan SMP N 2 Danau Kembar merupakan populasi penelitian ini. </em><em>K</em><em>elas VIIIA (24 orang) sebagai kelas experimen dan kelas VIII B (24 orang) sebagai kelas kontrol merupakan kelas sampel </em><em>yang dipilih </em><em>dengan menggunakan teknik </em>purposive sampling<em>. Pada kelas experimen diperoleh </em><em>rerata</em><em> 75,71</em><em>, sementara itu rerata </em><em>kelas kontrol </em><em>adalah </em><em>69,54. Peneliti juga mendapatkan </em>Tcalculated sebesar <em>2,91 dan Ttable</em><em> sebesar</em><em> 1,68. </em><em>Dari data yang didapatkan jelaslah bahwa</em><em> H</em><em>0</em><em> ditolak dan Ha diterima. D</em><em>engan demikian d</em><em>apat </em><em>d</em><em>isimpulkan </em><em>bahwa</em><em> penggunaan strategi 3H memberikan efek positif dan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan </em><em>pemahaman </em><em>membaca siswa pada teks deskrptif.</em></p>
