Pacientes portadores de doença renal crônica tem um risco cardiovascular aumentado. E a doença cardíaca pode estar presente em estágios iniciais e principalmente nos pacientes em estágio terminal. Uma das complicações da doença são os distúrbios do eixo mineral e ósseo, que à medida que a função renal diminui causa a perda progressiva da capacidade de manter o equilíbrio desse eixo. Com esse desequilíbrio pode haver calcificação cardiovascular como a calcificação de válvulas cardíacas que é muito prevalente nesses pacientes. Assim, esses pacientes devem ser frequentemente avaliados para prevenção e diagnóstico precoce dessas complicações, uma vez que as opções de tratamento são limitadas.
