A endodontia é a especialidade dentro da odontologia que se ocupa da prevenção, do diagnóstico e do tratamento de doenças ou lesões da polpa dental. Portanto, é imprescindível o conhecimento anatômico de cada elemento. É importante estar preparado para lidar com possíveis alterações anatômicas, já que 7,5% de pré-molares podem possuir três canais, número que vem crescendo ao longo dos anos. O objetivo deste estudo é relatar o caso de um tratamento endodôntico de um primeiro pré-molar superior com três canais radiculares, descrever a variação anatômica encontrada no primeiro pré-molar superior e discutir como se deve realizar o diagnóstico e o tratamento proposto para casos de primeiros pré-molares com três canais. O relato de caso clínico foi devidamente autorizado pelo paciente, e aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa. Conclui-se que, para não haver a persistência de infecção no sistema de canais radiculares, são necessários a correta identificação e o tratamento. Assim, aumentam-se os índices de sucesso nos tratamentos endodônticos.
Objetivo: identificar a percepção de cirurgiões-dentistas das redes pública e privada do município de Erechim, RS, sobre atenção em saúde a pacientes com necessidades especiais, avaliando conhecimento, preparo e limitações para o atendimento odontológico. Métodos: este estudo de caráter transversal ocorreu no período de março a agosto de 2019, por meio da aplicação de questionário próprio semiestruturado para cirurgiões-dentistas. Resultados: participaram da pesquisa 82 cirurgiões-dentistas, sendo a maioria (58,54%) atuantes na rede privada; 56,10% não cursaram uma disciplina específica em sua graduação sobre cuidados a pacientes com necessidades especiais. Em contrapartida, dos que cursaram, para a maioria, a disciplina era obrigatória e teórico-prática. Conclusão: apesar de somente 42,68% se sentirem muito bem ou bem preparados, somente 10,98% nunca realizaram atendimentos. Mesmo não tendo cursado uma disciplina específica em sua graduação, os cirurgiões-dentistas de Erechim, RS, realizam o atendimento e, quando necessário, o encaminhamento desses pacientes. Por manifestarem o interesse em se manterem atualizados sobre o tema, ações de educação continuada serão de fundamental importância.
Dentes supranumerários ou hiperdontia podem ser classificados como dentes que excedem o número normal encontrado, podendo acontecer em qualquer região dos arcos dentários. Esta pesquisa teve por objetivo investigar a prevalência de elementos supranumerários, bem como sua localização, relação com sexo e raça/etnia dos pacientes atendidos nas disciplinas de Cirurgia e Traumatologia Bucomaxilofacial de uma Clínica-Escola de Odontologia do norte do Rio Grande do Sul. Foram analisados 363 prontuários de pacientes atendidos no ano de 2018. Do total (n=107), 5 pacientes foram identificados com dentes supranumerários, correspondendo a uma prevalência de 4,67%. A idade variou de 13 a 27 anos, com uma média de 18,2 anos de idade (DP= 5,3 anos). A região mais afetada foi a de pré-molares, principalmente em ossos maxilares. O sexo feminino foi 15% mais acometido que o masculino e a raça/etnia branca foi apontada como tendo uma incidência de 4:1 em relação aos não brancos. Apenas uma pequena amostra possuía radiografia panorâmica em seu prontuário. Sugere-se a implantação de um protocolo para solicitação da radiografia panorâmica ao início dos procedimentos clínicos com o propósito de diagnosticar precocemente a presença de dentes supranumerários e avaliar demais estruturas anatômicas.
