Herb’type est un outil de caractérisation des services de production (valeur d’usage) fournis par les prairies permanentes : productivité, digestibilité, temporalité de la production et souplesse d’utilisation. Les fondements écologiques qui en font sa généricité sont résumés dans une première partie. Dans une deuxième partie, nous présentons le mode d’emploi de l’outil permettant de passer d’un relevé botanique à une évaluation des services agronomiques : la composition en types fonctionnels de graminées est renseignée par une méthode simplifiée de relevé botanique ; des règles d’agrégation des données et d’interprétation des résultats permettent de passer de cette composition à une information (les composantes de la valeur d’usage) puis à une connaissance opérationnelle pour l’action. Herb’type est le résultat d’un travail en partenariat avec des éleveurs et des conseillers lors de suivis d’élevage et de formations ayant donné lieu à des retours d’expérience qui ont permis de transformer une idée en plusieurs prototypes puis en un outil. Dans une troisième partie, nous présentons quelques illustrations d’utilisation de l’outil à différentes échelles (parcelle, système fourrager) comme éléments d’évaluation et pour montrer quelques potentialités de l’outil. Enfin les atouts et les limites de cet outil sont présentés en précisant les pistes en cours d’étude.
L’approche multi-niveaux des transitions présente les niches d’innovation comme des incubateurs de nouvelles voies productives dont la diffusion auprès du régime conventionnel peut amener ce dernier à évoluer. Nous mobilisons ce cadre d’analyse pour étudier la trajectoire d’innovation de la démarche « Bleu-Blanc-Cœur (BBC) », construite sur un changement de pratiques en alimentation animale pour améliorer la valeur santé des produits. Par l’analyse des interactions entre acteurs des systèmes sociotechniques laitiers en France, nous examinons comment co-évoluent les systèmes en place et la niche d’innovation BBC ; et comment se construisent de nouveaux standards de qualité dans le secteur. Cette étude montre comment des innovations technologiques, organisationnelles et institutionnelles se combinent. Nous proposons de considérer ces changements comme les précurseurs d’une transition du secteur laitier, selon la stratégie future des acteurs face à cette démarche d’innovation. L'agriculture doit faire face à de grands défis qui sont interdépendants : dérèglement climatique, production d'énergie, érosion de la biodiversité, pollution des milieux, sécurité alimentaire et santé humaine. Pour éclairer les politiques publiques, nous comparons des scénarios dont un objectif commun est l'atteinte de la neutralité carbone en 2050. Ils reposent sur différentes hypothèses de production de biomasse et de son allocation à l'élevage, aux produits biosourcés et au sol. L'état de l'art montre des interdépendances fortes entre ces différents domaines. Nous concluons que des innovations ou changements systémiques sont nécessaires pour faire face aux différents défis. Sur ces bases, nous montrons que les scénarios reposant le plus sur les technologies sont climato-centrés et ignorent les questions de biodiversité et de santé. A l'opposé, les scénarios plus multifonctionnels reposent sur des innovations plus systémiques, souvent déjà connues, sont meilleurs pour la biodiversité et la santé, mais sont plus difficiles à mettre en œuvre car demandant plus de sobriété dans la consommation de produits animaux et d'énergie et nécessitant de lever un plus grand nombre de verrous sociotechniques. Ces analyses suggèrent de mieux mobiliser les acquis agronomiques pour construire et évaluer des scénarios. En conclusion, nous montrons comment les scénarios les plus systémiques confortent le Green Deal et soulignent les insuffisances de la PAC. Plusieurs formes d’agriculture ont récemment émergé pour faire face aux externalités négatives de l'agriculture. Certaines visent à réduire les impacts. D'autres comme l'agroécologie propose de fonder l’agriculture sur les services écosystémiques. De ce fait, il coexiste actuellement deux grilles d'évaluation mal articulées caractérisant, l'une les impacts sur les ressources naturelles et l'environnement, l'autre les services fournis par la biodiversité à l'agriculture et à la société (séquestration du carbone...). Nous présentons un cadre d'analyse basé sur les services écosystémiques et l'économie circulaire, articulant ces deux démarches, pour évaluer les systèmes agricoles. Puis, à partir des données de la littérature, nous comparons trois exemples : agriculture raisonnée (AR), biologique (AB) et de conservation des sols (ACS). Nous montrons que l'AB a des impacts plus importants que l'AC et l'ACS lorsque l’on considère les indicateurs les plus couramment considérés (émissions de gaz à effet de serre, besoin en terre). Par contre, les résultats sont revisités pour les services à la société : plus faibles pour l'AR, et plus élevés pour l’AB et l'ACS. Une évaluation similaire est faite pour les systèmes d'élevage. Nous discutons comment ces évaluations pourraient être mobilisées par les politiques publiques pour relever les grands défis à l'agenda de l’agriculture. Gérer un système de pâturage nécessite de définir de manière cohérente trois types de règles. Les règles de planification s’appuient le plus souvent sur des référentiels régionaux (chargement par saison en fonction des apports d’azote). Les règles opératoires (hauteur d’herbe résiduelle, intervalle entre deux utilisations) sont issues d’expérimentations. Les règles d’adaptation ne sont généralement pas spécifiées précisément ; cependant des moyens d’adaptation sont proposés (ajout ou retrait de parcelles) ainsi que des indicateurs de déclenchement de ces adaptations (état de l’herbe par exemple). La difficulté de conduite d’un système de pâturage est de rendre cohérent ces trois ensembles de règles. Il s’agit par exemple de dimensionner la surface allouée par vache de façon à obtenir une hauteur d’herbe résiduelle permettant une efficience agronomique élevée, tout en minimisant les adaptations à faire entre saisons et années. A partir de suivis de pâturage dans trois réseaux d’élevage, nous montrons que le volume d’herbe disponible par équivalent vache - VHD - (somme des produits surface x hauteur de l’herbe des différentes parcelles, divisée par le nombre de vaches) est un indicateur permettant de relier les différentes règles de conduite du pâturage. En outre, les observations détaillées de la structure de la prairie pâturée pour différentes valeurs de VHD permettent de définir des seuils pour concilier les recommandations à l’échelle de la parcelle et la simplicité de conduite.
