The aim of the article is to analyse available publications, as well as official documents of European Commission dealing with the term digital literacy, to define digital abyss and factors which affect it. The article further focuses on investigation of digital literacy in SR, as well as on determining the effect of selected factors. There were used general methods of scientific research, questionnaire, survey of digital literacy in Slovakia, statistical evaluation and verification of statistical significance. The findings of the research confirmed that the expected factors, which are predominantly age and education, affect the creation of digital abyss in Slovakia.
Participation in the information society means faster communication, development of new ideas, more creative ideas and education in terms of lifelong learning. The information society is a reality and a dominant element of politics in all developed countries of the world. Information literacy deals with the human ability to work effectively in the information society. Information literacy needs to be understood in a wider context, rather than only in terms of IT skills and abilities. The article compares and defines the concept of information literacy. It compares selected information literacy models. The starting point is a survey conducted among business managers in the Slovak Republic examining the level of information literacy of managers. The findings identify factors affecting the aggregate index of information literacy of managers and the proposed quantitative and qualitative model of the information literacy of managers. Presented are the unique results of long-term research on information and digital literacy in the Slovak Republic (Central Europe, the European Union and V4-Visegrad countries). So far, no research has been conducted focusing on the level of digital literacy of business managers and an information literacy model that would contribute to raising their level.
Reiff M., Ivanicova Z., Surmanova K. (2018): Cluster analysis of selected world development indicators in the fields of agriculture and the food industry in European Union countries. . Abstract:The paper analyses the disparity in the performance of the agriculture and food industry sectors in EU countries during the period from 2002 to 2013, and identifies significant differences between countries as well as the dynamics of change. The individual countries are clustered according to the long-term average of the World Bank collection of development indicators such as agricultural raw materials exports, agricultural raw materials imports, crop production index, food production index, livestock production index, cereal yield, agriculture value added and agriculture value added per worker. The analysis reveals convergence in the given period and identifies significant differences in the indicator of agriculture value added per worker at the end of the analysed period.
In the last decade, measuring the effectiveness and the effects of information and communication technologies has become a very important issue for companies. Company managers often argue over the effects achieved by integrating innovative information technologies and systems.
The driving force behind our modern society is information and information and communication technologies, which are an essential part of the infrastructure of organisations, enterprises. Their development substantially affects the economic environment and they are among the factors of prosperity and business competitiveness. Without information and the use of information and communication technologies, it is currently not possible to manage businesses, organisations and decide professionally. For an efficient management, the managers of organisations need relevant information crucial for an appropriate decision making. In all organizations of the state sector, the public sector, in associations and private enterprises, managers work in the following categories: top, middle and lower level management with an important mission -to influence the activities of the organization and its results.Information-communication technologies (ICTs) penetrate into the social life and on all levels of the economy, which changes the society into the information society. It can be briefly defined as a society in which the main focus is information and information technologies. The growth potential of organizations has become the information and there is an increasing need for a comprehensive, systematic approach to information throughout the whole society. The access to information cannot be achieved without using new ICTs, which include all technical, application and organisational means for the information processing. Abstract: Th e growing importance and relevance of ICT in business increases the dependence of business entities on ICTs, to which the managers of agricultural enterprises need to pay the necessary attention. Th e penetration of ICTs also aff ects the companies that do business in the area of agriculture. High quality and accessible information today has a strategic economic and social importance for the management of this sector; therefore, the use of ICTs by the company managers is becoming an essential part of their daily lives. In their work, the managers of agricultural enterprises most often use a personal computer. Th e intensity of the laptop use is increasing and thanks to the mobility and connectivity, smartphones are also getting ahead. Th e use of these devices closely involves operating and application software. Th e most popular operating system is Windows. In terms of applications, the managers most often use the most popular package MS Offi ce. Th e research involves an analysis of the intensity of the ICT use by managers with emphasis on agricultural enterprises in the Slovak Republic. Th e scientifi c article presents the results of an implemented survey focusing on the intensity of the ICT use by managers and the verifi cation of the hypothesis of a signifi cant infl uence of a manager's job position on the intensity of the ICT use in the company.
