The monitoring of highwall slopes at open-pit mines is an important task to ensure safe mining. For this reason, several techniques such as total station, radar, terrestrial Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) can be employed for surface measurement. The objective of this study is to investigate mesh algorithms, which can be used to interpolate 3D models of pit walls. Experiments were carried out at Coc Sau open-pit mine at Quang Ninh province of Vietnam, and at experimental mine of Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza University of Science and Technology in Cracow, Poland. First, 3D point cloud data for the study area was acquired by using terrestrial LIDAR, then was used to generate mesh surfaces using three algorithms-Delaunay 2.5D XY Plane, Delaunay 2.5D Best Fitting Plane, and Mesh from Points. After that, the results were rectified and optimized. Subsequently, the optimized meshes were used for generation of non-uniform rational basis spline (NURBS) surfaces. Then, the NURBS surface accuracy was assessed. The results showed that the average distance between surface and point cloud was within range of 5.6-5.8 mm with deviation of 6.2-6.8 mm, depending on the used mesh. Additionally, the quality of surfaces depends on the quality of input data set and the algorithm used to generate mesh network, and the accuracy of computed NURBS surfaces fitting into pointset was 4-5 times lower than that of optimized mesh fitting. However, the accuracy of the final product allows determining displacements on the level of centimeters.
A geological documentation is based on the analyses obtained from boreholes, geological exposures, and geophysical methods. It consists of text and graphic documents, containing drilling sections, vertical crosssections through the deposit and various types of maps. The surveying methods (such as LIDAR) can be applied in measurements of exposed rock layers, presented in appendices to the geological documentation. The laser scanning allows obtaining a complete profile of exposed surfaces in a short time and with a millimeter accuracy. The possibility of verifying the existing geological cross-section with laser scanning was tested on the example of the AGH experimental mine. The test field is built of different lithological rocks. Scans were taken from a single station, under favorable measuring conditions. The analysis of the signal intensity allowed to divide point cloud into separate geological layers. The results were compared with the geological profiles of the measured object. The same approach was applied to the data from the Vietnamese hard coal open pit mine Coc Sau. The thickness of exposed coal bed deposits and gangue layers were determined from the obtained data (point cloud) in combination with the photographs. The results were compared with the geological cross-section.
Introduction: Chronic venous insufficiency is the most commonly occurring vascular disease. One of the major risk factors for its development is long-term sitting or standing in prolonged unchanged position and the nature performed work.
Study aim: The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of lower limb home exercises limb with the use of the Bella Vena robot following disease onset causing tetraparesis in long-term observation.
Materials and methods: A group of 15 patients (43.80 ± 14.97 years) was enrolled in the study. These patients had experienced whiplash injury causing total or partial inertia, with preserved mobility in the ankle joints. The total duration of the observation lasted 8 months (8 visits), during which the following parameters were assessed at the beginning and end of this period: pain intensity – according to the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), level of saturation on the toe, pulse rate of the lower limb via Doppler ultrasound evaluation of reflux parameters.
Result: Statistically significant improvement was achieved after home exercises within the following ranges - quality of pain intensity on VAS (p≤0.01), saturation at the level of the big toe (p≤0.05), Doppler ultrasound: reflux in the right femoral vein (p≤0.05), Doppler ultrasound: reflux in the left femoral vein (p≤0.05)
Conclusion: Home exercises with using a prototype of the Bella Vena device showed a moderate effect on improving calf pump in the group of patients with quadriplegia in long-term observation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
