La selección de personal ha sido catalogada como un macroproceso compuesto por varias actividades. A partir de este punto, el objetivo del trabajo fue analizar cómo los profesionales de Talento humano utilizan las plataformas sociales en las decisiones de contratación durante las diferentes etapas del proceso de selección. La investigación utiliza un enfoque explicativo secuencial de métodos mixtos. El primer estudio consistió en una encuesta basada en un cuestionario de la contratación de profesionales con la intención de describir varios aspectos de la práctica actual (n = 429). Los datos de la encuesta se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva e inferencial. El segundo estudio comprendió entrevistas semiestructuradas con profesionales contratantes para brindar una mayor profundidad de análisis (n= 24). Los datos de las entrevistas se analizaron mediante un análisis temático cualitativo. Los resultados revelaron dos tipos de usuarios. Los usuarios de una sola etapa enfatizaron las preocupaciones de eficiencia, mientras que, los usuarios de múltiples etapas mencionaron acceder a los perfiles según sea necesario. La evaluación de la información de las plataformas sociales no suele ser sistemática, pero algunos empleadores informaron que utilizan escalas, principalmente en la preselección.
