To effectively implement evidence-based practices (EBP) in behavioral health care, an organization needs to have operating structures and processes that can address core EBP implementation factors and stages. Lean, a widely used quality improvement process, can potentially address the factors crucial to successful implementation of EBP. This article provides an overview of Lean and the relationship between Lean process improvement steps, and EBP implementation models. Examples of how Lean process improvement methodologies can be used to help plan and carry out implementation of EBP in mental health delivery systems are presented along with limitations and recommendations for future research and clinical application.
This article presents personality assessment as valuable in expediting favorable outcomes in mental health service delivery. The unique role of the examining psychologist is discussed with respect to assessment paradigms, behavior sampling, and eliciting patient "ownership" of solutions. Solutionoriented therapy is presented as promoting client adaptiveness from a customer-oriented point of view. A consultation-feedback model is described, which integrated these themes. Several case examples are offered to illustrate identified principles.
The study was designed to determine whether resident assistants could develop the human relations skill of affective sensitivity within a short period through a teaching program integrating didactic and experiential techniques. Two groups of 16 randomly assigned resident assistants were placed in experimental and control groups. The trained group participated in a 4-hr. workshop composed of exercises structured to enhance accurate identification of expressed affect, while the control group received no training. Posttest data demonstrated significant improvement by the group who received training. The value of teaching affective sensitivity for informal counseling and the application of integrated training programs for other populations were discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
