How a person who is blind views himself is based on many factors, one of the most important being the attitude of society toward the stereotypical “blind person.” In an effort to break this stereotype, agencies involved in vocational rehabilitation have an obligation to find placements which are unique and non-stereotypical. Such placements will help improve attitudes toward those who are blind, enable such persons to become contributing members of society, and help them to improve their self-concept.
