Introdução: A Esclerose Lateral Amiotrófica (ELA) é uma doença motora neurodegenerativa, caracterizada pela degeneração progressiva que acomete tanto os neurônios motores superiores, localizados no córtex motor e tronco encefálico, quanto os neurônios motores inferiores localizados na medula espinhal. A fisioterapia tem um papel importante para o tratamento, focando na manutenção da funcionalidade e independência do paciente, assim como a prevenção de contraturas e complicações respiratórias, promovendo melhor qualidade de vida a eles. Objetivo: o objetivo desse trabalho foi realizar uma revisão de literatura com levantamento bibliográfico sobre os cuidados e benefícios da fisioterapia em pacientes com ELA, atribuindo melhora das queixas e sintomas, funcionalidade e qualidade de vida, mostrando também a percepção desses pacientes em relação ao tratamento fisioterapêutico. Metodologia: O presente estudo tratou-se de uma revisão literária realizada nas bases específicas, com artigos nos idiomas português e inglês. Como critério de inclusão foram utilizados artigos publicados nos últimos oito anos, que abordavam sobre a atuação da fisioterapia em pacientes portadores de ELA e a visão desses pacientes sobre o efeito da fisioterapia na melhora de suas queixas principais e qualidade de vida. Artigos com mais de oito anos de publicação, estudos de revisão literária/sistemática e artigos fora do tema proposto, foram excluídos do estudo. Resultado: A busca nas bases de dados resultou no total de 132 artigos, que foram submetidos a uma análise e seleção dos títulos e resumos, totalizando ao final 7 trabalhos para a inclusão no estudo. Conclusão: Conclui-se que o papel da fisioterapia na ELA é de extrema importância para os pacientes, age diretamente na redução dos sintomas, alívio da dor, melhora das disfunções motoras e respiratórias, proporcionando adaptação dos pacientes em suas limitações, bem como a estimulação para preservar o que ainda é preservado, promovendo bem-estar, conforto e uma melhor qualidade de vida.
