In growing rats, slowly-turning-over cells were labelled by application of 3H-TdR for 1–6 Four weeks after the last 3H-TdR injection, all short-living cells had lost their label, while long-living small Spleen lymphocytes lymphocytes and cells of Immune responsesthe bone marrow and the spleen had retained it. After Lymphocytesprimary and secondary exposure to antigens (human aγ-globulin plus complete Freund’s adjuvant), labeling of bonemarrow lymphocytes remained stable, where- as the labelling index of spleen lymphocytes markedly decreased. It is, therefore, concluded that at least the majority of long-living small lymphocytes in the bone marrow, in contrast to long-living small lymphocytes of the spleen, do not participate in a primary and secondary immune reaction against these antigens.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
