Hydrogen peroxide was supported on polyvinylpyrrolidone to afford a stable and mild oxidizing reagent. Activated aromatic compounds were reacted with PVP-H 2 O 2 in the presence of KI or I 2 and a catalytic amount of H 3 PW 12 O 40 in refluxing CH 2 Cl 2 to afford the corresponding iodinated arenes.

2006 Halogen compounds Q 0090 Direct Iodination of Aromatic Compounds with Polyvinylpyrrolidone Supported Hydrogen Peroxide (PVP-H2O2) and Potassium Iodide or Molecular Iodine. -PVP-H2O2 is synthesized as a solid and stable oxidant for the heterogeneous direct iodination of activated aromatic compounds under mild conditions.
