Background: Indonesia is the one of tropical climate country with high air humidity. It becomes the main factor of fungal infection, that is called otomycosis, which is caused by Aspergillus flavus. The treatment of otomycosis is usually done by giving an azole antifungal drugs that can give the beneficial and adverse effects. Treatment of otomycosis can be done with various kinds of herbs. One of herbs that is used, it is citronella. Citronella contains essential oil 0,4% and in citronella essential oil contains citronellal 32-45% and geraniol 12-15% has ability as an antifungal. The aim of this study is to determine the inhibitory of citronella essential oil against Aspergillus flavus growth. Methods: The type of this research is laboratory experiments with posttest only with control group design. 24-hour Aspergillus flavus is used as the research subjects which had been inoculated on SDA media and given essential oils in various concentrations of 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0 %. The observation of citronella essential oil inhibitory as an antifungal by measuring the diameter of inhibitory zone, it uses a caliper. Results: The measuring from average diameter of Aspergillus flavus fungal growth zone in each concentration, they are 0.5% ;1.0%; 1.5%; 2.0% is 9.11 mm; 12.03 mm; 13.62 mm; 16.81 mm. The higher concentration of essential oil, it makes the wider diameter of the inhibition zone. The level of sensitivity is intermediate, sensitive, sensitive, sensitive. The level of effectiveness is less effective, effective enough, effective, very effective. The results of statistical analysis showed that citronella essential oil has the inhibitory against Aspergillus flavus growth. Conclusion: this study was various concentration of citronella essential oil have a significanteffect on the growth of inhibitory Aspergillus flavus.
Thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, and monocytosis are laboratory parameters in the diagnosis of dengue virus infection. In addition to monocyte cells, mast cells also play a role in the innate immune response, where degranulation of mast cells will occur, which will secretion the active vaso mediator, Chymase. Chymase has a role in increasing vascular permeability resulting in plasma leakage in patients with dengue virus infection to determine the number of platelets, leukocytes, monocytes and chymase levels in patients with dengue infection in the acute phase. The platelet count mean in NS1 (+) was 132,140 cells / mm3 and the platelet count in the NS1 group was (-) 176,000 cells / mm3. The mean leukocytes NS1 (+) showed results of 4,350 cells / mm3 and NS1 (-) 5,250 cells / mm3. The mean monocyte NS1 (+) monocyte count was 8.26%, and NS1 (-) group was 8.76%. There were no significant differences in platelet counts, leukocytes and monocytes between NS1 (+) and NS1 (-) (P value> 0.05). The mean Chymase NS1 (+) 23.48, NS1 (-) 23.05 ng / mL and the control group 1.47ng / mL.
Kanker kolorektal merupakan salah satu dari kejadian kanker tersering di Indonesia. Penyebab dari kanker kolorektal sendiri sampai saat ini belum diketahui secara pasti, tetapi banyak faktor risiko yang dipercaya dapat menyebabkan kanker kolorektal, salah satunya adalah jumlah asupan serat dari sumber makanan sehari-hari seperti sayur, buah, dan kacang-kacangan. Beberapa peneliti yang menemukan adanya korelasi signifikan terhadap diet dan kejadian kanker kolorektal berspekulasi bahwa makanan yang kita makan akan mempengaruhi keberagaman mikrobiota yang berada di dalam usus yang nantinya akan mempengaruhi proses terbentuknya kanker. Selain itu terdapat kecenderungan bahwa anak-anak jaman sekarang kurang menyukai sayuran dan lebih menyukai makanan instan yang rendah serat. Selain sebagai sumber serat, sayuran juga merupakan sumber vitamin dan mineral yang penting untuk tubuh. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini merupakan aplikasi dari health promotion dengan cara menginisiasi agar kurikulum sekolah dasar dapat terkandung materi terkait konsumsi sayuran, sehingga anak-anak didik menjadi terbiasa mengkonsumsi sumber serat terutama sayuran. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berlokasi di empat sekolah di wilayah Kabupaten Sleman. Pemilihan sekolah didasarkan pada letak geografis dan kedekatan akses makanan siap saji. Kegiatan ini meliputi pengukuran pengetahuan tentang kanker kolon, tentang pentingnya konsumsi dan pola konsumsi sayuran pada siswa SD sasaran. Setelah itu diikuti dengan pemberian materi dalam bentuk audio-visual dan buku “Ayo Makan Sayuran”, kemudian dilakukan pengukuran peningkatan pengetahuan dan motivasi konsumsi sayuran pada siswa SD sasaran.
