The prevalence of degenerative condylar bone changes increased with increasing age and was more frequent in women and right condyle.
Objectives:The purpose of the present study was to examine ultrasonographic appearances of Masseter Muscle (MM) in dentate and edentulous patients without Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD).Materials and Methods: The thickness of the MM in 25 dentate (mean age: 30,68 ± 10,49) and 24 edentulous (mean age: 61,46 ± 9,71) patients, who visited routine dental examination, was measured at rest and at maximum contraction bilaterally. Examinations were performed using an Aloka Prosound α6 (Hitachi Aloka Medical Systems, Tokyo, Japan) equipped with an 8 MHz-wide bandwidth linear active matrix transducer (ranging from 1 to 15 MHz). The visibility and width of the internal echogenic bands of the MM were also assessed and the muscle appearance was classified as I of III types. Type I, characterized by the clear visibility of the fine bands; Type II, thickening echogenicity of the bands; Type III, disappearance or reduction in a number of the bands. Results:MM thickness at rest and contraction in the dentate group were significantly higher than the edentulous group (p <0.05). Type I was the most common echogenic type in both dentate (right:16 (64%), left; 15 (60%)) and edentulous patients (right; 22 (91.7%), left; 18 (75%)). In a dentate group, type II was significantly higher than the edentulous group in both the right and left sides (p <0.05; p <0.01, respectively). Age and gender seemed to have no significant effect on the echogenic type (p ˃0.05).Conclusion:There were significant differences in the thickness at rest and contraction between the dentate and edentulous groups. It was clarified that ultrasonographic features of the MM in dentate and edentulous patients were different.

Anahtar sözcükler: Anatomik noktalar, CBCT, maksillofasiyal bölge ABS TRACT CBCT images of anatomic landmarks in maxillofacial regionConventional radiographic techniques in dental radiology allows only 2D images of 3D structures of head and neck region. CBCT is a recent technology, is also named as dental volumetric tomography, which was developed as an alternative to conventional CT using cone beam-shaped X-ray to provide more rapid acquisition of a data set of entire maxillofacial region. CBCT has remarkable advantages such as shorter exposure time, reduced image distortion due to patient movements, decreased patient dose and multiplanar screening. CBCT also allows the clinicians to localize the anatomic structures of the maxillofacial region and these anatomic structures can be visualized in various planes such as axial, coronal and sagittal planes. In this review we mentioned some anatomic structures of the maxillofacial region by using CBCT imaging.
SUMMARY Aim:The purpose of this study is to evaluate mandibular incisive canal morphology in dentate, edentulous and partially dentate inviduals using cone beam computed tomography( CBCT), retrospectivelty. Materials and Methods:The study group consisted of images of 60 females and 60 males who was over 30 years old, divided in three goups: dentate, edentulous and partially dentate. In cross sectional images the canal diameter, distances from canal to buccal-lingual cortex, alveolar crest and basis mandible were measured on starting, middle, end point of canal. The length of canal, being unilateral or bilateral, the bone width between end points and the location within the alveolar bone were evaluated. The relationship between genders and datas were compared. Results: Mandibular incisive canal incidance was 94,2% in all cases. No statistically significant difference in incidence and length of canal were found between the groups (p˃0,05). The canal diameter on middle and end points were significantly higher in dentate than edentulous on both sides and in partially dentate group on left side (p<0,05). The canal diameter in females on middle poi...
