Introducción: La microbiota oral es un vasto ecosistema de bacterias localizadas en diversas superficies de la cavidadoral, en los adolescentes éste entorno suele alterarse debido a los cambios biofisiológicos que comprende este grupoetario, modificando la frecuencia y diversidad de las bacterias y a su vez contribuyendo a la formación de enfermedadescomo la caries dental. Objetivo: Establecer las características de la microbiota oral en adolescentes de 15 años de edaden la ¨Unidad Educativa Liceo Patria Universal¨ mediante el recuento microbiano en las muestras obtenidas de lasuperficie dentaria sana y cariada. Métodos: Este estudio es descriptivo, inductivo- deductivo, de tipo transversal y noexperimental. Se consideró el sistema ICDAS para el diagnóstico de superficies sanas y cariadas, el índice de O’Leary paraconocer el porcentaje de placa de cada estudiante y el contador bacteriológico que permite representar el número decada colonia y el total de bacterias visibles en la muestra. Resultados: En piezas con caries dental se encontró elEstreptococo Mutans con el 10% en el sexo masculino y 13% en el sexo femenino, el Estafilococo Salivarius con 4% y 3%F. Piezas dentarias sanas, Estafilococco Sp. 1% M 7 % F y el Estafilococo Albus 7% M y 6% F. Conclusiones: La microbiotaoral es una comunidad de microorganismos que residen en nuestra boca para cumplir funciones importantes, es unaherramienta valiosa que permite la identificación correcta de las colonias bacterianas que habitan en la cavidad oral.
