One of the sustainable development goals is to ensure gender equality. Gender discrimination in employment reduces the social benefit of gender equality. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between youth female unemployment and development through data belonging to European Union countries. 1991-2018 period data and panel data analysis method were used for the study. Findings obtained from the analysis show that there is unidirectional causality from youth female unemployment to development. According to the result, it can be stated that women play an important role in the development process in European Union countries.
The aim of this study, the relationship between trade openness and economic growth, is to analyze in terms of econometric by utilizing the annual data of the years 1960-2016 for the Turkish economy. For this purpose, the national income ratio of the sum of exports and imports and the real per capita income variables are used in the analysis. Engle-Granger and Gregory-Hansen cointegration tests and the Toda-Yamamoto Granger causality test were used to analyze the relationship between trade openness and economic growth. The results show that a long-run relationship was not found between the variables, and a unidirectional causality relationship was found from economic growth to trade openness.
The main goal of this study is to analysis to relationship between health that play an important role in welfare level of countries and development. One of the most imperative components of human capital, healthcare is theoretically known to have a correlation with development, and yet, it appears to be necessary to carry out the econometric analysis of this relationship. Given that, this work tries to show the effects of improvements in the Turkish healthcare industry on economic development by using the annual data of 1975-2012. In this context, two models have been constructed with two development indicators, the growth rate of per capita income and infant mortality rate. Per capita healthcare costs, per capita hospital beds, the number of healthcare institutions and the share of total healthcare costs in national income have been appointed as independent variables. The analysis has been conducted with the aid of classical unit root tests Augmented Dickey-Fuller and Phillips-Perron, as well as Hatemi-J (2012) asymmetric causality test. The result of analysis indicates that the relationship between health indicators and development is positive.
