The minute you walked into the classroom, you could tell that something was different. The fifthgrade students were enthusiastically holding up laminated sheets of 8 1/2-by-11-inch cardboard, called response boards, with numbers on them. As the teacher asked “¿Qué es esto?” they replied with big smiles on their faces, “Seis más cinco son once” (“Six plus five is eleven”).
