El concepto de calidad de vida ha adicionado una nueva dimensión a la forma como se mide el éxito de las diferentes intervenciones en la enfermedad. La calidad de vida relacionada con salud (HRQL, su sigla en Inglés), se mide con instrumentos específicamente desarrollados para evaluar las experiencias de los pacientes con diversas enfermedades (1). Estos instrumentos van desde generales hasta específicos como el Cuestionario de Enfermedad Respiratoria Crónica (CRQ) (2, 3), el cual evalúa la calidad de vida relacionada con salud para enfermedades respiratorias. Originalmente se diseñó para aplicarse en pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva cró-nica (EPOC) pero se utiliza también en pacientes con bronquiectasias y enfermedad pulmonar intersticial. Así, se considera válido, preciso, simple de usar y sensitivo a los cambios en el estado de salud, y cubre los dominios de disnea, emoción, fatiga y desempeño (4).En general, los cuestionarios que miden la calidad de vida relacionada Editorial con salud se han desarrollado en Inglés y han sido adaptados a diferentes idiomas. Para esto no solo se necesita traducción y retrotraducción sino también estudios para demostrar su validez, fiabilidad y sensibilidad a los cambios. El CRQ original era dependiente de un entrevistador, que si bien es cierto evita los posibles errores dependientes del paciente, toma tiempo del personal en salud. Esto ha llevado en los últimos años al desarrollo de una versión autoadministrada estandarizada, validada a varios idiomas, que simplifica el uso, facilita la comprensión y reduce el tiempo que se requiere para su elaboración (5).En este número se presenta un estudio de corte transversal en el que se valida la escala haciendo el esfuerzo de adaptar el cuestionario al Español latinoamericano pues existe una versión previamente validada al Castellano peninsular. Se incluyeron pacientes con EPOC y otras enfermedades pulmonares avanzadas.
