Transtorno mental raro, porém, grave, o TOC (Transtorno Obsessivo-Compulsivo) é uma neurose atípica, cuja importância para a saúde pública tem sido subestimada. A necessidade não atendida de indivíduos com TOC, exige investigação das barreiras ao acompanhamento, e intervenção, encorajando a busca por ajuda. Por isso, há carência de compreensões mais profundas, ajudando assim, a integrar mais dados em perspectivas neuropsicológicas. Fatos que levam à problematização: processos de tratamento sem investigações multidisciplinares podem demandar mais tempo de controle dos sintomas. Em resposta à problemática, foi realizado estudo bibliográfico, método dedutivo com técnica de análise qualitativa, norteado pelos objetivos: analisar pacientes com TOC, influências dos mecanismos neuropsicológicos, comorbidades, causas e tratamento; descrever a funcionalidade neuronal e psicológica envolvida nos sintomas; descrever o processo de diagnóstico, caracterizando sintomas e causas; levantar procedimentos de tratamento clínico e psiquiátrico. A discussão dos conteúdos comprova investigação associada a outras áreas, como psicologia e neurologia, visando o TOC.
