PALAVRAS-CHAVE Brassicaceae Ciclo biológico Curuquerê-da-couve KEYWORDS Brassicaceae Life cycle Cabbage looper RESUMO: A lagarta Ascia monuste orseis (Lepidoptera: Pieridae), é a principal desfolhadora da couve comum Brassica oleraceae var. acephala (Brassicaceae) no Brasil, entretanto, ataca várias outras brassicáceas como brócolis (B. oleracea L. var. italica), mostarda (Sinapis arvensis L.), couve-flor (B. oleraceae var. botrytis) e agrião (Lipidium ruderale L.). Apesar da importância para as folhosas, poucos trabalhos biológicos foram reportados sobre a praga. Por tal motivo, objetivou-se neste trabalho, caracterizar o ciclo biológico e os aspectos morfométricos desta praga em condições de laboratório. Três gerações consecutivas foram avaliadas, sendo alimentada com dieta in natura com couve-comum e os parâmetros de avaliação foram: Tempo de desenvolvimento, peso e morfometria das fases de ovo, larva, pupa e adulto. Os resultados obtidos permitiram determinar que, o ovo é alongado, com extremidades achatadas e vários sulcos laterais, possui coloração amarelada, altura média de 1,12 mm, diâmetro de 0,57 mm e com uma duração de 4,5 até a eclosão da larval. A espécie apresenta cinco ínstares larvais, sendo que, o período inativo (Ovo + Pré-pupa + Pupa) representa cerca de 30% do ciclo total, por outro lado, os parâmetros morfométricos demonstram acentuado dimorfismo sexual em todas as fases observadas e o ciclo de vida completo de A. monuste orseis foi de 33,22 dias (♂) e 37,95 dias (♀).
