Los materiales aislantes traslúcidos utilizados en cubiertas de gran claro y estructura curva, tienen el potencial de disminuir el consumo energético entre un 20 y 30 por ciento aproximadamente. Asimismo, son considerados una estrategia de ahorro energético en edificios que destinan consumo de energía a sistemas para el confort térmico y visual. Este estudio propuso desarrollar un método experimental, para analizar el comportamiento térmico, lumínico y de humedad relativa de dos materiales no convencionales (el aerogel y el politetrafluoroetileno (PTFE)) y un elemento comparativo (el policloruro de vinilo (PVC)) en tres módulos tipo, ubicados en la ZMCM. Se evaluó la tasa de cambio, la ganancia y la iluminancia promedio con el objetivo de identificar el material de mayor eficiencia energética. El PTFE presentó los valores más altos de iluminancia, a partir de los resultados del análisis de datos, durante los tres tipos de cielo en verano (o estación caliente-húmedo) con una diferencia promedio de 3 296.80 luxes respecto al PVC.
