La lechuga (Lactuca sativa L.) es una hortaliza de hoja que en México genera un importante ingreso económico; sin embargo, los altos niveles de nitratos (NO3-) pueden ocasionar problemas de salud, ya que generan compuestos carcinogénicos. Una alternativa para disminuir el NO3- en hojas es sustituyéndolo por amonio (NH4+), lo que podría beneficiar la salud humana reduciendo la ingesta de NO3-. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el crecimiento y acumulación de NO3- en lechuga con diferentes relaciones de NO3-/NH4+ en la solución nutritiva en dos estaciones de cultivo. Las lechugas se cultivaron en un sistema hidropónico de raíz flotante. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar en arreglo factorial 4 × 2, cuatro relaciones de NO3-/NH4+ (100/0, 80/20, 65/35 y 50/50) y dos estaciones de cultivo (verano y otoño), con un total de 8 tratamientos. Las variables evaluadas fueron peso seco de raíz (PSR), de hojas (PSH) y total (PST), área foliar (AF) y concentración de NO3- en peciolo. No se encontraron diferencias significativas entre estaciones para PSH, PST y AF. En otoño el PSR aumentó 11 % en comparación con el de verano. En verano el contenido de NO3- en peciolos aumentó 55 % comparado con el de otoño. La relación 100/0 aumentó 25 % el PSH, PST y AF, y 15 % más de NO3- en peciolo. Durante el verano, utilizando una relación 100/0 se presentó un aumento de 4 % en el PSH, PST y AF. Al usar NH4+ en las relaciones 65/35 y 50/50 se redujo 25 % el crecimiento y 15 % la acumulación de NO3- en peciolo. En la estación de verano la aplicación de 100/0 en plantas de lechuga aumentó el crecimiento. En la estación de verano el contenido de NO3- en peciolo aumentó el doble.
La lechuga (Lactuca sativa L.) es un importante cultivo alimenticio y es cultivada en todo el mundo. Su rendimiento fotosintético y metabólico es dependiente de parámetros de luz y de temperatura. Por otro lado, la fuente del suministro de nitrógeno (N) a la planta se relaciona de manera directa con la eficiencia fotosintética; por este motivo la fotosíntesis es afectada por la disponibilidad de N y por la radiación. Con base en lo anterior, el objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar la respuesta fotosintética del cultivo de lechuga en hidroponía con relaciones nitrato/amonio (NO3-/NH4+) en verano y otoño. Las lechugas se cultivaron en un sistema hidropónico de raíz flotante. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar, con arreglo factorial 4 x 2, cuatro relaciones de NO3-/NH4+ (100/0, 80/20, 65/35 y 50/50) y dos estaciones (verano y otoño), con un total de ocho tratamientos y 300 unidades experimentales (en cada estación). Se evaluaron las variables: eficiencia máxima del fotosistema II (Fv/Fm), eficiencia efectiva del fotosistema II (ФPSII), tasa de transporte de electrones (ETR), asimilación neta de CO2 (Pn), tasa de transpiración (E) y conductancia estomática (gs). Las condiciones ambientales del otoño promovieron un aumento en todas las variables de fotosíntesis. La relación 100/0 aumentó 17.5 % más ФPSII y 15.73 % más gs. La interacción estación verano con la relación 50/50 disminuyó la Fv/Fm a 0.78 y en ETR la 100/0 fue menor en un 41.76 %. La aplicación de NH4+ en dosis mayores al 35 % en la solución nutritiva disminuyó las variables de fotosíntesis en el cultivo de lechuga en verano. La reacción fotosintética asociada con crecientes proporciones de N amoniacal en la solución nutritiva es dependiente de la estación de cultivo (verano u otoño), al parecer asociada con la temperatura y radiación.
En la búsqueda de mayor eficiencia de los fertilizantes se ha investigado la viabilidad de materiales naturales para la liberación lenta de nutrientes. Este trabajo tuvo el propósito de evaluar el efecto de un fertilizante organobentonita-fosfato (OBP) preparado por adsorción de fosfato sobre organobentonita (OB) en el crecimiento de plantas de lechuga (Lactuca sativa L.). Se evaluaron ocho tratamientos en un sistema hidropónico de raíz flotante con diferentes proporciones de P aportado con OBP (%) en soluciones Steiner con o sin P reducido (%): 1) 0/100, 2) 25/75, 3) 50/50, 4) 75/25, 5) 25/0, 6) 50/0, 7) 75/0 y 8) 100/0. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar con seis repeticiones, cada unidad experimental fue una planta individual. Adicionalmente, en laboratorio se realizó un experimento sin plantas, para evaluar la liberación del P de la OBP. La liberación de P incrementó a mayor contenido de OBP; el P liberado a los 35 días fue mayor en el tratamiento 100/0 (7.27 mg L-1) y menor en los tratamientos 25/75 (3.27 mg L-1) y 25/0 (2.18 mg L-1). El consumo de P por las plantas fue mayor en los tratamientos con más fertilizante soluble en el medio debido a que la OBP liberó P lentamente. La OB puede adsorber P y posteriormente liberarlo gradualmente, lo que indica su uso potencial como fertilizante de lenta liberación.
El objetivo de este trabajo fue caracterizar el proceso de fermentación y características fisicoquímicas y orgánicas de bocashi elaborado con estiércol de ovino, bovino y porcino, además de evaluar su eficiencia como abono orgánico en la producción de forraje en verde y en materia seca, rendimiento en materia seca y proporción tallo:hoja:grano de maíz para ensilar y compararlo con fertilizante químico y sin fertilizar. No se encontraron diferencias en el tiempo de fermentación entre las fuentes de estiércol, sin embargo, el bocashi elaborado con estiércol de ovino presento mayor número de características fisicoquímicas y orgánicas deseables. La producción de forraje en verde y en materia seca y el rendimiento en materia seca y fueron similares entre el bocashi de ovino y usando fertilizante químico (35.54 vs 35.17 ton ha-1; 10.0 vs 9.84 ton ha-1; 28.13 vs 27.93% respectivamente). La proporción de hoja y grano fue mayor en el maíz fertilizado con bocashi de ovino, comparado con el resto de los tratamientos, por lo que se concluye que el uso de bocashi elaborado con estiércol de ovino como fertilizante para la producción de maíz para ensilar, puede ser una opción viable para sustituir el uso de agroquímicos sin afectar el rendimiento, por su mayor producción de grano y hoja, sugiere ser un buen forraje para obtener ensilados de alta calidad.
