Parmi les référentiels de mobilisation du groupe « État islamique », la question de l’oblitération matérielle et immatérielle de l’ordre frontalier issu des accords Sykes-Picot (1916) semble jouer un rôle prépondérant : en effet, au cœur de l’imaginaire politique du groupe s’inscrit l’impératif de revitalisation califale et, partant, la restauration de l’unité politique et spatiale d’un monde islamique idéalisé. Cet article, issu d’un travail de terrain conduit en 2015 et 2016, explore les stratégies de conceptualisation et de diffusion de l’idéologie spatiale de Daech à partir de l’étude d’ouvrages scolaires de géographie, collectés dans et autour des territoires tenus par le groupe.
À travers l’étude de deux moments révolutionnaires de l’histoire syrienne (1979-1982 et 2011-2014), cet article propose une analyse comparative des processus de « construction de l’ennemi » en milieu autoritaire. Le « système Assad », depuis la prise de pouvoir par Hafez en 1970, fonde sa stratégie de survie sur l’invention et l’entretien systématiques d’une altérité concurrente, à combattre. Cette figure de l’ennemi, protéiforme et évolutive, constitue l’un des déterminants majeurs de la politique étrangère syrienne, et demeure aujourd’hui au cœur de la répression contre-révolutionnaire engagée en mars 2011. En s’appuyant sur un corpus d’entretiens semi-directifs et sur la compilation systématique des archives des journaux Al Baath et Tishrin , cet article s’intéresse tout particulièrement aux exemples comparés des représentations syriennes de l’État d’Israël et des mouvements salafis-jihadis type Al-Qaïda .
Depuis 2013, la projection de forces a succédé aux missions de conseil du Hezbollah sur le territoire syrien. Au service d’intérêts communs avec l’Iran, elle a eu un rôle militaire décisif. Cet engagement a de profonds effets sur l’identité et les structures du Hezbollah : organisation militaire et politique, rapports avec les autres communautés religieuses… En dépit d’un large rejet sunnite, le parti tente de se présenter aujourd’hui comme un rempart régional et a-confessionnel contre Daech.
