This analysis represents the largest systematic review and only quantitative systematic review to date performed on this subject. Compared with STR, GTR substantially improves overall and progression-free survival, but the quality of the supporting evidence is moderate to low.
For the last decade we have been engaged in the study of the history, economics, and sociology of live music in Britain. In this article we will consider the value of “ecology” as an analytic concept (rather than just a buzzword) and compare an ecological account of the setting in which music happens to the use of previous spatial metaphors, from Durkheim’s milieus to Straw’s scenes. Objectives-To determine the prevalence of antibodies to the human T cell leukaemia/lymphoma viruses (HTLV-I and HTLV-II) in blood donors in north London in order to assess the economic impact and the logistic effects that routine screening would have on the blood supply.Design-All donations collected by the north London blood transfusion centre between January 1991 and June 1991 were screened for antibodies to HTLV-I and HTLV-II by modified, improved Fujirebio gel particle agglutination test. Positive samples were titrated and retested as necessary.Subjects.-96 720 unpaid volunteers, who gave 105 730 consecutive donations ofblood and plasma.Setting-North London blood transfusion centre. Main outcome measure-Observed numbers of donors confirmed to be seropositive for HTLV by reference laboratories.
A biomarker is a characteristic that is objectively measured and evaluated as an indicator of normal biological processes, pathogenic processes, or pharmacologic responses to a therapeutic intervention. The discovery and development of proper biomarkers is a critical part of modern oncology. Among the many different types of biomarkers, cell receptors have demonstrated important roles as diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarkers in cancer research and therapy, leading to their integration into drug development trials. In breast cancer, Estrogen/Progesterone receptors and HER2/neu receptors are two good examples of biomarkers that are prognostic of outcomes, as well as predictive of response to certain therapies. Limitations exist, however, such as the invasive procedures required obtaining tissue, and the difficulty measuring the actual distribution of the receptors. Thus, continued efforts to develop receptors as comprehensive cancer biomarkers with novel approaches is mandated to further advance the modern oncology.
This paper presents a method for predicting the power consumption of piezoelectric actuators utilized for active vibration control. Analytical developments and experimental tests show that the maximum power required to control a structure using surface-bonded piezoelectric actuators is independent of the dynamics between the piezoelectric actuator and the host structure. The results demonstrate that for a perfectlycontrolled system, the power consumption is a function of the quantity and type of piezoelectric actuators and the voltage and frequency of the control law output signal. Furthermore, as control effectiveness decreases, the power consumption of the piezoelectric actuators decreases. In addition, experimental results revealed a non-linear behavior in the material properties of piezoelectric actuators. The material nonlinearity displayed a significant increase in capacitance with an increase in excitation voltage. Tests show that if the non-linearity of the capacitance was accounted for, a conservative estimate of the power can easily be determined.
