En los últimos años ha existido un aumento significativo en el diagnóstico de la anquiloglosia, las cirugías del frenillo lingual y las publicaciones científicas. Al respecto, es necesario que los profesionales de la salud conozcan el tratamiento fonoaudiológico en estos casos. El objetivo del estudio fue describir la terapia fonoaudiológica implementada en niños, adolescentes y adultos luego de la frenotomía, frenectomía o frenuloplastia lingual, mediante una revisión integradora de literatura. Para esto, durante el segundo trimestre del 2020 las bases de datos electrónicas PUBMED, LILACS, SciELO y Cochrane, fueron consultadas utilizando las palabras claves en inglés: “Ankyloglossia”, “Tongue Tie”, “Lingual Frenulum”, “Lingual Frenum”, “Surgical Procedures”, “Frenuloplasty”, “Lingual Frenulectomy”, “Speech Therapy” y “Myofunctional Therapy”. Se seleccionaron artículos originales relacionados al tema, y fue creado un protocolo específico para la extracción de los datos. Fueron encontrados 798 artículos. 39 se incluyeron luego de la lectura de los títulos y la eliminación de duplicados, 13 luego de lectura de los resúmenes y 7 luego de la revisión de los textos completos. Finalmente, tras un análisis de referencias cruzadas 10 estudios fueron incluidos en esta revisión. Se concluye la importancia del tratamiento fonoaudiológico en el abordaje multidisciplinario del frenillo lingual, abordando aspectos de movilidad lingual, habla y otras funciones orofaciales alteradas luego del procedimiento quirúrgico.
Purpose The present study is aimed towards determining and comparing normative nasalance scores in Chilean Spanish-speaking adult men and women. Methods 40 women (age range 18 to 35, X = 25.79, SD = 5.83) and 36 men (age range 18 to 35, X = 26.45, SD = 4.08) were invited to participate, all of them without any previous speech therapy, neurological pathologies, intellectual deficits, hearing loss, syndromes, or other diagnosed pathologies that could impact speech production. A study of proper velopharyngeal function was performed, using a perceptual resonance evaluation. Nasalance was determined using a model 6450 Nasometer, during the reading of three standardized speech samples in Spanish: a nasal passage (NP), an oronasal passage (ONP), and an oral passage (OP). Also, the nasalance distance was calculated. Genders were compared using Wilcoxon tests for independent samples. Results The NP presented the highest percentage of nasalance, with 52.13% (± 4.73), followed by the ONP with 25.38% (± 3.7), and finally the OP, which presented the lowest value of 14.15% (± 5.03). Meanwhile, nasalance distance was 37.98% (± 5.32). Finally, no significant differences were observed when comparing the nasalance between genders (p >0.05). Conclusion The nasalance values obtained were similar to those observed for other Spanish speakers. Also, male and women showed similar scores. The results of this study are a contribution to the indirect assessment of velopharyngeal function in Chilean adults.
Children and youth with special health care needs, belongs to a group of individuals presenting several health issues of variable complexity and special care needs in health, one of them a successful dental treatment. The high prevalence of oral pathologies is not the only complication we found in dental attention; there are also behaviour and communication disorders, affecting the cooperation level in dental treatment. In spite of the limitations previously mentioned, different adaptations and techniques have surged in order to achieve a successful dental treatment. In this article we describe animal assisted therapy as a useful complementary method for pediatric dental treatment. Objective: Describe the experience of animal assisted therapy in pediatric dentistry treatment of children and youth with special health care needs. Methods: Descriptive-retrospective study performed in 2019, revision of 32 clinical digital records of Hospital, of children and youth with special health care needs, ages between 4-13 years old, and their pediatric dentistry treatment records with animal assisted therapy. Results: 32 patients with dental treatment, in 26 patients (81.25%) dental treatment was successful; 36 dental procedures were performed, 19 invasive and 17 non invasive. Conclusion: The implementation of animal assisted therapy as a complement of pediatric dentistry treatment had a high acceptance and allowed successful invasive and non invasive dental procedures in children and youth with special health care needs.
