A exposição ao sol é benéfica para a pele desde que todos os cuidados sejam tomados, como a fotoproteção correta, uma vez que a exposição solar é responsável principalmente pela indução da síntese de vitamina D cuja sua utilização no organismo é de suma importância para o auxílio do sistema imunológico. Apesar disso, se expor ao sol significa se expor à radiação solar, que esta, por sua vez, é dividida em raios UVA, UVB e UVC. A exposição excessiva ao sol e sem os cuidados adequados induzem a um estresse oxidativo mediado pelos radicais livres, no qual, o combate contra esses radicais livres é realizado pelos antioxidantes presentes naturalmente na pele, entretanto, o avançar da idade reduz quantitativamente os antioxidantes fazendo com que se tenha mais cautela à exposição solar. OBJETIVOS: Avaliar e analisar a importância do uso diário dos fotoprotetores, bem como seus efeitos benéficos na pele. METODOLOGIA: Este estudo trata-se de uma revisão bibliográfica sistemática analítica qualitativa que tem como objetivo identificar a importância do uso diário do protetor solar. RESULTADOS: A radiação solar é dividida em raios UVA, UVB e UVC, sendo que nos raios UVA o dano é maior pois penetra mais profundamente nas camadas da pele, o raio UVB penetra mais superficialmente e é responsável pelas queimaduras solares e o raio UVC é absorvido pela atmosfera. Sendo assim, a fotoproteção é de suma importância para a saúde da pele, seja ela fotoproteção tópica, mecânica ou oral.
