ABSTRACTThis work was developed in order to perform the optimization in semi-industrial scale production of castor oil, which was the objective of a project at the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (UNISC), Mercur and Cooperativa Mista de Fumicultores do Brasil (COOPERFUMOS) We analyzed two batches of oil being extracted by UNISC one and the other provided by Cooperfumos do Brasil SA. Analyses were made of the physical and chemical composition of castor oil produced in the Vale do Rio Pardo for the purpose of using the oil for use in industry. The crude oil has gone through the process of enzymatic degumming. The extraction was done by UNISC a reduction of over 80% phospholipids, showing a satisfactory result in their reduction and showed values compatible with the demands for use in the production of rubber. The COOPERFUMOS oil had a reduction of approximately 50% of its initial phospholipids, due to this, we note that it was green oil containing more impurities and require a further purification step.
