INTRODUCTION:
During the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, whether endoscopy generates aerosols needs to be determined.
METHODS:
In patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with an enclosure covering their heads, 0.3–10-μm aerosols were measured for 60 seconds before, during, and after endoscopy by an optical counter. Whether aerosols increased in the situation with and without endoscopy was examined.
RESULTS:
The analysis included 103 consecutive patients undergoing endoscopy and 90 control patients. Aerosols increased significantly during endoscopy compared with the control group. Body mass index and burping were significant factors related to increased aerosols during endoscopy.
DISCUSSION:
Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was an aerosol-generating procedure.
Famotidine treatment including metronidazole-amoxicillin as second-line therapy provided a high eradication rate similar to lansoprazole therapy. Famotidine is therefore expected to serve as a useful H. pylori eradication regimen in patients with proton pump inhibitor allergy, an economic benefit in terms of reduced health-care costs is also anticipated.
The results suggest that neonatal hippocampal lesioned rats are accompanied by the dysfunction of NMDA neurotransmission. They also suggest that hyperresponsiveness to PCP following neonatal hippocampal lesions does not depend on the extracellular DA concentration in the NAc.
H. hepaticus infection might play a role in the development of liver diseases; in particular, it might increase the risk of the development of HBV- and/or HCV-infected liver diseases.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
