Espécies de mangues são utilizadas para o tratamento de doenças em populações do litoral paraense, cujas informações estão descritas em trabalhos etnobotânicos. Este estudo objetivou verificar o estado da arte sobre o uso dos mangues na medicina popular em comunidades litorâneas do Estado do Pará. Para tanto, fez-se a busca de trabalhos acadêmico-científicos publicados em diferentes bancos de dados, considerando o período de 2000 a 2020. As informações pertinentes foram tabuladas em planilhas do Excel 2018 para o cálculo de frequências, elaboração de tabelas e gráfico. Foram encontrados 11 trabalhos, sendo a maioria artigo, seguido de dissertação e tese, com frequência dispersa entre as duas décadas de levantamento. Estes trabalhos tiveram como áreas de estudo os municípios de Soure, Maracanã, Bragança e Marapanim com foco em reservas extrativistas marinhas. As espécies de mangues pertenceram a três famílias botânicas típicas da região: Acanthaceae (Avicennia germinans (L.) L.), Combretaceae (Conocarpus erectus L. e Laguncularia racemosa (L.) C.F.Gaertn.) e Rhizophoraceae (Rhizophora mangle L. e Rhizophora racemosa G.Mey.), com indicação medicinal para diferentes doenças, entre elas, as gastrointestinais, problemas dentários e diabetes, a partir de diferentes órgãos das plantas, sobretudo, em forma de chá. Poucos foram os estudos etnobotânicos publicados nessa temática, porém, é fato que tais plantas usadas tradicionalmente para o tratamento de doenças possuem validade científica por meio de pesquisas fitoquímicas. Este conhecimento e uso populares são importantes como ciência básica para o desenvolvimento de novos medicamentos e cosméticos a base de plantas.
