Epidermal nevus syndromes are a group of rare multiorgan disorders. Schimmelpenning syndrome is a clinical variant of epidermal nevus syndromes. This congenital syndrome is characterized by the existence of nevus sebaceous and usually accompanied by abnormalities of the eyes, skeletal, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems. A 2-year-old girl presented with large, hairless, yellowish-brown plaques on the scalp and face along with multiple brownish-black verrucose plaques and brownish-black macules on almost all parts of the body. The skin-colored verrucose tumors were also found on the lips and around the mouth. Histopathological examination of the lesion on the forehead revealed hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, and sebaceous gland hyperplasia supporting the diagnosis of nevus sebaceous, while histopathological examination of the lesions on the lips and abdomen demonstrated hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, and papillomatosis consistent with verrucous epidermal nevus. The pediatrician suspected that the patient had mental retardation; however, there were no neurological, cardiac, skeletal, nor ophthalmologic abnormalities. The lesions on the lips and around the mouth were excised, and it demonstrated a good result. To conclude, epidermal nevus syndrome (e.g., Schimmelpenning syndrome) should be considered in children born with nevus sebaceous.
Pemberian penyuluhan mengenai DA, pencegahan DA, serta personal hygiene, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kualitas hidup anak dengan DA.Kata kunci: anak, dermatitis atopik, penyuluhan, pencegahanABSTRACT Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, recurrent disease with an inflammatory skin lesion associated with itch as hallmark symptoms and dry skin. This disease often develops initially in infants and childhood. The AD development is related to skin microbiota which is influenced by daily behavior patterns. Various diagnostic criteria can confirm the diagnosis of AD. Hanifin-Rajka's criteria is the most common AD diagnostic criteria used. Its minor criteria could be asked conveniently to the elementary school children. The aim of the community service and research is for early detection of AD, followed by counseling and prevention of AD, and personal hygiene. The research method was descriptive, cross-sectional, using a questionnaire at Cikeruh 1 Elementary School, Ciawi Village, Cikeruh, Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency. The subjects were grades 5 and 6 elementary school students. As a result, pityriasis alba is the most common finding and one of the minor AD criteria, a clinical feature of AD. Ultimately, this activity can increase the early detection of new AD cases in children. The habit of washing hands, which is one of the personal hygiene measures, is carried out by most students. Providing counseling and prevention of AD, and personal hygiene, are expected to improve the quality of life of children with AD.Keywords: atopic dermatitis, children, counseling, prevention
